Djo Mpoyi Kanyinda.
So as not to miss a European tour of TPOK Jazz, Djo Mpoyi one day boarded the plane under someone else's name. The visa was not ready, Franco was not waiting, and the singer crossed the sky with the identity of a fellow musician.
His entire career is held in this image: an immense voice which lends its beauty to the words of others.

Born in Bujumbura to a Burundian father and a Congolese mother, Joseph Kanyinda Mpoyi sang from the age of thirteen in the bars of Lubumbashi.
After Tao Tao, Lovy du Zaire and the Kara Orchestra, Franco recruited him to TPOK Jazz in 1978. 
His vocal range, of rare amplitude, becomes one of the most beautiful instruments in the orchestra.
He performs the compositions of Simaro, “Mbongo”, “Mandola”, “Pablo”, and sings “Masikini” and “Celio” as a soloist. 

The most heartbreaking part comes at the end.
When Franco died in 1989, it was Djo's voice that Simaro chose to mourn the Grand Master: "Hommage à Luambo Makiadi", then "Pablo Tumbajika", the last song on which we hear him as a soloist.

He sang the elegy of his musical father before passing away himself, in 1993, much too young.  No one had his voice to sing his own.
