At Uriri Talent Academy, we use football to help young people grow their talent, build leadership skills, and stay on a positive path in life. Boys need safe spaces where they can build confidence, learn life skills, and get guidance from mentors.

This one-day Wellness and Mentorship Program brings together boys, coaches, mentors, and partners for a fun mix of football, wellness talks, and life-skills learning.

Objectives

- Support physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.
- Offer mentorship on confidence, discipline, and good decision-making.
- Use football to build teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
- Create a safe and open space for learning and expression.
- Strengthen partnerships in child protection, sports, health, and youth development.
- Encourage ongoing mentorship and talent growth.

Together, we can help boys play, learn, and grow into their best selves.

As part of our commitment to using sport as a vehicle for peace building, empowerment, social cohesion, and community development, we hosted Coach Douglas from Coaches Across Continents for a practical learning and partnership session on Purposeful Play.

Purposeful Play introduces football as more than a competitive sport—it is a tool for creating safe spaces, strengthening relationships, developing leadership, encouraging dialogue, and addressing social challenges affecting communities.

Objectives
The engagement aimed to:
Build the capacity of local coaches and community actors to use football for social change.
Introduce Purposeful Play methodologies for peace building and community development.
Explore opportunities for collaboration between local initiatives and Coaches Across Continents.
Strengthen preparations for the Migori Peace & Cohesion Campaign.
Promote sport as an inclusive platform for dialogue, leadership and community resilience.

⚽🌱 URIRI TALENT ACADEMY: BEYOND FOOTBALL

Since its establishment in 2020, Uriri Talent Academy has grown from just six children under 10 into a youth development platform supporting 40 young players in the Under-13 and Under-15 categories.

Led by FKF-certified Coach Erick Otieno Omolo, the Academy uses football as an entry point for talent development, leadership, mentorship, child protection and positive social change.

At UTA, every child deserves a safe environment to play, learn, grow and dream. Child protection is therefore central to our work.

We promote safeguarding, responsible adult mentorship, positive discipline and safe participation, while working with families, schools and relevant child-support structures to ensure that children are protected from abuse, exploitation, neglect and harmful practices.

Beyond football, UTA engages young people through feeding programmes, arts and crafts, environmental conservation, community clean-ups, food sovereignty initiatives and Football for the Goals – SDG 2.

Today, the Academy participates in the FKF Grassroots Youth League, creating opportunities for young players to develop their abilities while building confidence, teamwork and leadership.

From six children in 2020 to a growing community of young talents today, Uriri Talent Academy is proving that football can be a powerful pathway to protection, opportunity and transformation.

On 25th July 2026, we were honored to receive guests from the Humanist Network, through Uriri social justice center- USJC

Together, we held meaningful discussions on food sovereignty, sports for peace and non-violence, and the importance of empowering communities through collaboration. These conversations reaffirmed our shared commitment to building a future where every person has access to food, lives in peace, and thrives in a safe and sustainable environment.

We warmly welcome this partnership and look forward to working together to advance community-led solutions that promote justice, resilience, and lasting social impact.
