THE CALL
This Wednesday, July 8, at 13:00 YTG is holding an open Audition call for any performers, dancers, or performance artists who want to be involved in our Summer production of I Speak in the Halls of Power, an original show that we'll create together.
That's right: the ensemble is a crucial part of creating our show. So whatever your age, gender, accent, etc. is, is no barrier to joining us.
Building on the framework established during our spring showcase this year, we're reworking the play, keeping some elements and getting rid of others. Everyone in the rehearsal room will be part of that.

THE PLAY
At the heart of the story are Edward and Maya, two young revolutionaries from different classes and backgrounds, whose love for each other is undying, but who are pulled apart by their ideologies. Themes of the play include: loss, revolution, and power.
Other characters include, but aren't limited to: the Dictator, Julietta (a socialite and kingmaker), the key power holders in the nation, revolutionaries, and more. We'll expand or contract the character count based on the ensemble size.
The central image of the show is a "cabaret in hell", in which the musicians narrate the story we see on stage. So there are going to be live musicians and opportunities to play instruments or sing for anyone with those talents.

THE REHEARSALS
We are rehearsing Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 - 17:00, with frequency of rehearsals increasing as we approach the performance dates. We are asking for people who can commit to most of these rehearsal days.

PRODUCTION WEEK
Production week runs Monday, August 10 to Friday August 14. Aside from our usual Wednesday and Thursday daytime calls, we will be working on adding more rehearsal times (other days and maybe evenings) that week so that performers can work alongside technicians and set cues, etc.

THE PERFORMANCES
(These are tentative dates, since we don't know the running time of the show yet. The odd times are to accommodate livestream viewers in North America.)

Interested? Come make something with us.

Experience in performance, devised theatre, or collaborative creation is a plus — but curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to create together matter most.

This is a volunteer, community-led project, open to anyone in Yokohama interested in making live performance with us this summer.

We’re looking for collaborators who can commit to the full rehearsal process and performance run, and who are excited to work in an ensemble-driven, devised theatre environment.

Performance Dates

August 14th – 16th

Rehearsals:

Wednesdays & Thursdays 10:00 – 17:00

Project Details

This project is built through a collaborative, ensemble-led creative process. There is no finished script waiting for you — instead, we’ll be creating the work together as a group, building something ambitious through experimentation, discussion, and collective creativity.

など、さまざまな表現者を歓迎します。

今回の作品はデバイジング（共同創作）によって制作されます。

最初から完成された台本があるわけではありません。

メンバー全員がアイデアを持ち寄り、対話しながら、一緒に作品をつくり上げていくアンサンブル主体のコラボレーション型創作です。

稽古から本番まで継続して参加できる方を募集しています。

このプロジェクトは地域コミュニティ主体のボランティア公演です。

経験者はもちろん歓迎ですが、演劇経験や共同創作の経験がなくても問題ありません。

大切なのは、

・一緒に作品をつくる意欲

・新しい表現に挑戦したい気持ち

・アンサンブルで創作することへの興味

YTG is looking for crew to join us behind the scenes for our summer production. If you love bringing a show to life from backstage, this is for you.

We're looking for help with:

Set Design

Set Building

Costume Design

Wardrobe Management

Sound Operator/Mixer

Front of House Crew

The details:

📅 Rehearsals: Wednesday–Thursday, 10–5
(Crew positions not required to attend rehearsals. although designers should show up a few times at least.)

Tech week: August 10th - 14th

🎬 Performances: August 14th–16th

No experience necessary in every role, just enthusiasm and reliability. Whether you're a seasoned set builder or curious to try something new backstage, we want to hear from you.
