Quilters are frustrated long enough with FMQ, so I thought a marking tool(stencil) that would let you see your path clearly will help you quilt with ease, joy and confidence.

This quilt was quilted on a domestic sewing machine with the help of my Beginner’s Bundle Quilting Stencils.

One of the ways I practiced FMQ on actual quilts when I was a beginner was using panels.

It let me learn ways to manage the bulk of the quilt under the sewing machine and I liked testing new patterns on busy areas — where my imperfect movements are less visible while I was still learning.

On this panel, I quilted lots of feather plumes and swirls around all 4 sides of the frame. By the time I finished, I felt ready for a new project with confidence.

This is how I learned FMQ faster, without spending hours piecing something I’m scared to ruin.

How fast do you quilt? 💨🤗If you’re a beginner, you’ll get tense — so start slow, then build up little by little until you find your pacing.

Want to find your rhythm faster? 🧐Listen to your machine. You’ll be amazed how your movements start adjusting to the sound.

Here I used a stencil to mark my leafy plume feather motif and inverted it so I could see my path clearly.

Quilting big motifs on a domestic sewing machine can be challenging — especially when you can’t see behind the needle. 🪡🤔

So if you mark your quilt by drawing or using a stencil, try inverting the pattern. It will give you 100% visibility with a clear path and direction as you stitch. Try this and see how much easier it is to quilt!☺️

I used Stencil 12 from my Feather Stencil Bundle here, and honestly — I couldn’t quilt this motif beautifully without the markings. 🪶
