Metal Atelier is a Berlin based jewelry company making one of a kind pieces, inspired by all things spiky, shiny, and nihilistic, with a sprinkling of animal print.

Did a photo shoot in New York with the loveliest modelling my Grey Friars Memento Mori Collection. A collaboration years in the making, with its seeds going back much further. So awesome to work with such a fantastic human! Thank you!

It is summer time in the city!

After the success of the first summer Friday (which I of course neglected to take a single picture of), I want to keep this going.

Next dates: Friday June 19th + Friday July 17th. Put your tools down, close those laptops, and come have some wine (or lemonaide) in the sun. Wine, soft drinks, and light snacks will be provided. BYOB.

Atelier love stories...

A+S came to me in the fall with ideas and plenty of time for their spring wedding. S had worked in the kiez prior, and used to eat lunch in the platz in front of the atelier. He had found my work in our dusty window, and they came together inquiring about custom wedding bands.

The initial idea was to make wavy nesting bands, with possibly a lab diamond or maybe a sapphire. Our initial meetings were prior to my heading to Sri Lanka on a gem education and buying trip, so a sapphire it was.

So much of this project was trust and trusting the process, from my chicken scratch drawings to using words on pictures, to finding a suitable stone in Sri Lanka and transferring the chicken scratch to wax to silver to gold.

All steps of making completed in house, from carving the waxes to casting to setting and finishing.

Atelier love stories....

Years after taking an intro jewelry class here, E and her partner M reached out to inquire about coming to make their wedding bands in the atelier. They truly took the leap and made each other's rings, E carving a wax and casting a band for M, and M fabricating a dainty gold wave band for E. Using a mix of 18k and 8k family gold, we made 14k yellow gold rings.

Atelier love stories...

A+R came to talk about doing a partner ring workshop for their upcoming wedding. They were looking for the "wibbly and the wobbly" and not super traditional rings, with stones looking like they are growing from the metal. Hold my beer. Family gold was available, but they didn't want anything super blingy. We made mixed metal rings with 14k yellow gold in the fronts, super textured, and more streamlined silver backs. For stones, we used salt and pepper diamonds and blue sapphires very roughly set to look like they were, indeed, climbing out of the metal.

It's been a while since I introduced/ reintroduced myself here. I am Anna, your friendly Berlin punk rock goldsmith. Originally from New York, I have been melting metal and making bling here in Berlin for a bit over 9 years now. All of my collections are produced in Kreuzberg in the shadow of the former Berlin Wall. The vast majority is produced with one off sand moulds, meaning every piece is just a wee bit different. I believe in the power of hand work over CAD, and would sooner eat glass than offer AI renderings for projects (sorry not sorry). These days I am focusing on adding more stone work and hand engraving to my collections, the learning curve is steep.

When not in the studio, I spend a fair amount of time at gigs and concerts, have a secret identity as a dead bird (shhh....), get my yaya's out boxing, go to a lot of photography exhibitions and probably spend too much time sampling the local watering holes.
