I did a few color ways here- Which is your favorite?

This one was a joy to draw. Framing the her pose with the hair was just too fun. The original pose reference was fully clothed, but drawing them was a bit noisy. This kind of pose is full of crinkles and such. Sometimes they can add character but here I wanted softness. So then I had to find ways to make cover her up a little which allowed for some more creative liberty with the hair. Haha.

I read a tweet the other day about artistic nudity and how sometimes, when the core of the art is about the humanity, that you should do n**e portraits because anything other than them in that purist form could distract from that. If you recognize that brand of clothing they are wearing for example, or a location they are in, the entire meaning of the art can be lost in an instant. I felt that with this. All of the bunched up clothes around the belly were busy and distracting from the round, soft, feminine shape that is there.

Another one that was just supposed to be a sketch. It just kept going and going lol. At one point I expanded it out and tried to do full body with chunky shoes but it got out of hand. I went back to before I expanded it and continued and added the skirt and originally the hands were hidden behind and inside the sleeve.

Theres still remnants of the fact that it was supposed to be a sketch- The top and the underwear are actually just part of the line art with some line cut outs that art just part of the shrugs layer- Usually I’ll have seperate layers for all of them, but they are just on the base sketch. Haha.

A simpler sketch from the other day! I sometimes don’t understand what logic goes into which rough sketches go onto to a something like this or on to full illustration mode. Also I can’t figure out the logic for when things are more cartoony or more realistic. I’d love to have more control over those levers. But I’m thuinking it’s a left brain right brain related kind of deal.anyone know good ways to switch gears in the brain?!

I’m really happy with this one because it is no reference, start to finish, with lots of things I like to do like the straps that jump out and frill and hair that defies gravity! It’s also one I did while going to and from Design festa this year!

Another quick sketch that went the extra mile. I know the anatomy is slightly wonk but I kinda didn’t mind it… ive been feeling lately like having to be exact to “anatomical standards’ just pushes the worlds beauty standards in that every body should be a certain exact shape. Look around at all the diversity of body types! I swear it’s not excuse to be lazy 😂

Another straight from the comfort zone! No reference though, it makes me happy that I can just start drawing randomly and end up here.

This one kind of reminds me of MARiA, though. I kinda stopped listening to GARNiDELiA when they broke up, so I haven’t had much inspiration to draw her lately. Part of me worries that if I listen to it, the income it generates will go into the company that abused hers pockets… I want to listen sometimes though and YouTube will still put it in my playlist randomly. It now evokes a certain nostalgia. 🥲

Another piece straight from the comfort zone. Nothing really new here, just reinforcing/practicing current habits I like and avoiding hard stuff like hands lol. And of course filling it with the fun stuff like bouncing hair. It had a reference, for maybe a minute. Only a single bang remains. 😂

A recent sketch that is a wee bit overworked lol. It’s been a busy the last few days and so I just kinda fiddled with it in the in between times. I’ve also been messing around with some traditional supplies and things so there’s some new things happening soon jp maybe!! Still debating if I want to do a separate insta for analogue pieces and only do digital here… what do you think?

So I swear we must be living in a simulation. A few weeks ago I was talking about how an under layer with little bit of lace popping out from pants has become a trend. And in the last week I’ve had two different ads for a Uniqlo specific style of high waisted panties designed for it! And at least on reel about it too. It’s weird. So I put it in this sketch haha.

Sketch dump! Been a bit since my last one. Have a fave? Lol

I like to show some of the didn’t get finished or dead end pieces sometimes because i like seeing when other artists do. Knowing its not t all perfection and rainbows can make it seems more accessible. That being said, I am thoroughly pleased with the fingers on the first one. All wiggly and finagle-y. Maybe even the toes. Getting the big toe to look like it’s in the arch of the other foot was interesting. Not quite perfect but maybe next time it’ll be that much better lol 😂

I’ve been to the art supply stores again and oh I’m excited to paint things! I’m debating if I need to make a new instagram just for my traditional works cause they don’t really fit the bill of pixcel do they?

Today’s “quick sketch” that just kept going… I’m glad though cause it was a low pressure environment to play around! I don’t know how many times I redrew the hands and I’m still not quite satisfied but oh well.
