Epic day riding at Rusutsu yesterday. Didn't look like they got the same dumping of snow that Sapporo did, fresh powder lines were to be had everywhere. Don't think that Niseko is the only place you can play in the snow in Hokkaido!

After the big snow last night, we decided to make the trip to Hokkaido Shrine to ask for good fortune in the new year. I always feel a connection with nature when I visit Japanese shrines, and the fresh blanket of snow made this trip even more impressive.

My wife and I went to Spice & Mill in Sapporo, Shiroishi-ku, the other day and order the vegetable soup curry and the miso curry. Both were absolutely delicious! The vegetables were so fresh with beautiful presentation, and the miso curry (the miso is made from a starter that is over 100 years old, like a bread starter) has an exotic, refined taste I can't quite describe. If you like curry or are curious about what Japanese soup curry is, you must try Spice & Mill! The siphon coffee is also excellent, a wonderful way to round off the meal!

Delicious lunch back in Hokkaido with my sweetie! Bihada Dining Kei is just a short walk from Oasa JR Station outside of Sapporo and offers a wonderful selection of vegetable-focused dishes. While not strictly vegetarian, things like vegetable sushi and veggie kushi-age bring out the best flavors found in Hokkaido vegetables. Beautiful presentation and wonderful food, thank you !

Great day riding with the family at Teine Highlands. My oldest son and I played in the trees while my wife and youngest son made turns on the groomers. Best of all, beautiful Hokkaido powder was falling almost the entire time!

The sasa on the forest floor looks beautiful with it's white coat of snow, but it should really be buried by now. More snow, please!

We had a fun time at Asari Onsen Ski Park the other day. Quick runs, close location. The lifts are old and slow, but there was no wait and easy parking (unlike Sapporo Kokusai were the line for just lift tickets was 1 hour long!!)

If you follow the road past Bibai's Arte Piazza into the mountains you'll eventually find your way to the Coal Mine Memorial Park. The views are gorgeous in the fall, and there's definitely some good hiking to be found not to mention the road itself would be great to cycle (not good for road bikes, though). Check it out before the Hokkaido government finishes the road through here to Furano and everyone finds out about it!
