The Essence of the Point (Al-Nuqtah): A Visual Meditation
Many have wondered what a point is, and what is its essence throughout history, but what is the Point except a great sphere of ornament and light, though it is small.
Watch as infinite complexity—the patterns, the light, the shadows—collapses back into its fundamental origin: the single, defining dot in my name.
This visualization explores the core principle of Islamic geometric design: that all creation, however grand, begins with the smallest, most perfect unit.

Ornamentation is abstract art, that much is true! But new Islamic patterns give us the power to depict reality through that very abstraction. This short film showcases a unique piece: a self-portrait created entirely with ornamentation, featuring 5,000 distinct decorative units.

Signature of a Painting of Vertical Arabic writing with New Islamic Patterns
Some verses hold a special meaning for each of us, whether due to the depth of their meaning, the beauty of their expression and eloquence, or personal experience and lived reality. For our dear colleague, Dr. Omayma Al-Arja, she requested that I design a painting featuring verse 216 from Surat Al-Baqarah:
"But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not."
to adorn the main wall in the guest room of her blessed home. It was sized 190 x 89.5 cm.
I chose a formation of new Islamic patterns that emphasizes the great diversity in the sizes of the basic units and the amount of detail in each, to affirm the meaning of the verse regarding our inability to encompass what is around us and the difference in outcome from our original expectations. A color palette from natural formations was also chosen to connect the meaning of the painting to them.
