Stamp duty is the quiet market killer…

Do downsizers deserve a stamp duty break while those moving up to a family home don’t? I don’t like that. Doesn’t sit well to give those that have ridden property growth over decades the break, while young families who want to move cannot. Flip the script please. It shouldn’t even be a question.

Let’s talk the cost of moving home in Jersey.

Not the cost of the mortgage, as that is a monthly payment. Which hopefully is only granted if you can afford to pay it.

What about the costs you have to pay with hard earned cash upon completion? Biggest one out of them by a mile? Stamp Duty…cannot take a loan to cover that…from my own experience it’s a very painful payment. You either take it out of the equity in the property you are selling. Which detrimentally affects your affordability. Or out of your savings…which hurts like hell!
