Today we bid farewell to Maria Teresa Garatti, who was the harpsichordist of the ensemble for half a century.
Born in Brescia and educated in Milan, she came to Rome to join the group that had just begun to play the first notes of what would become a remarkable, luminous, and immensely successful journey—perhaps an unrepeatable one—which brought the ensemble not only international acclaim, but also helped spread Italian music of the eighteenth century throughout the world, including Vivaldi’s immortal Four Seasons.
Gentle in appearance yet determined and tireless in her work, an outstanding harpsichordist and pianist of the highest calibre, she leaves her name etched also in the countless recordings made with I Musici over the decades she spent with the ensemble.
Today, after a long diminuendo, she has reached the final pause.
Good music, wherever you may be…
