🏛️Marieke Ceelaert
Marieke obtained her bachelor’s degree in History from Radboud University. During her bachelor’s, Marieke was interested in both cultural theories in combination with ancient history, especially the Roman provinces and local/regional material cultures. She followed the course ‘Mapping the Via Appia’ in 2022 and stayed at the KNIR. Currently, she pursues these passions in her masters at Radboud University with a specialization in heritage studies.

🏛️Ted van Aanholt
Ted van Aanholt obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Philosophy at Radboud University, specializing in the history of philosophy and focussing on the role of censorship in the history of philosophy. Ted is now working on his PhD project ‘Modernity Contested: the Suppression of Atomism (1640-1680)’ in a Joint Degree programme between Radboud University and Università Roma Tre. Ted has stayed at the KNIR in the spring of 2022 for the masterclass ‘The Humanist and Scholastic Roots of Early Modern Philosophy’. He returned to the Institute in 2024 for a research stay to study sources related to his PhD project at different libraries in and around Rome, like the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma and the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice. Meet the VU KNIR Ambassadors 24/25

🏛️ Valentijn As
Valentijn obtained his BSc in Human Geography and Spatial Planning (UU) in 2022 specializing in heritage and tourism. His bachelor thesis on the dual role of churches as places of worship and tourist attractions in Rome was awarded the biannual thesis award of the Academic Association for Italian Studies in the Netherlands and Flanders [WIS] – being the first bachelor thesis to have ever received this award. Part of the award is a monthlong stay at the KNIR, which he hopes to make productive use of in the near future. In 2023 Valentijn completed his BA in Italian Language and Culture (UU) after having finished an internship at Museum Catharijneconvent. Leaning more to Art History, Valentijn is currently part of the RMa Curating Arts and Cultures – Arts of the Netherlands (VU/UvA) researching early Italian Renaissance art and the artistic relations between Italy and the Low Countries. He is currently doing so as an intern at the Uffizi in Florence. After being part of the Roma Caput Mundi Summer School at the KNIR, Valentijn is eager to convey his enthusiasm for the institute’s stimulating learning environment to other students. He is always open to answer any questions.

🏛️Anna Bundalo
During an Erasmus+ trip as part of her Master’s in Heritage Studies, Anna came into contact with the KNIR. In addition to Heritage Studies, she is also studying Philosophy of Culture and Governance at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She has a passion for the unifying power of culture and heritage and wants to deepen her knowledge in this field both academically and practically in the coming years. Anna is always ready for questions about the KNIR – or for a cup of (Italian) coffee!
