Believing in the importance of women’s presence in cinema, their stories and their active participation in the creation of the film industry, we have designed a workshop to support and empower their voices. HerArts Lab is meant to serve as a platform for exchanging thoughts, stories and ideas, nurturing female talent and giving it exposure to the international film community. HerArts Film Lab is a

week-long residential development workshop, set in Paestum, Italy, focused on content created by women. The workshop is addressed to female writer-directors from all over the world interested in developing their feature film and TV series projects in a friendly and supportive environment under the guidance of experienced mentors. The first edition of the Lab took place from April 4 to April 9, 2022.

An exciting afternoon in Cannes presenting HerArts on the terrace and talking about women writing stories that matter.

Mentor and director Eliza Subotowicz was there to talk about the lab, created together with co-creator Gerry Guarino, and to share the vision behind building a space where women writers can connect, collaborate, and grow.

So many curious souls, alumnae, and new friends came together to share ideas, experiences, and inspiration. Every conversation reminded us why spaces like this are needed and why community matters so much in this industry.

Our community keeps growing, and we are here to try and make a difference in the challenging, demanding, but always exciting world of storytelling.

Grateful for everyone who joined us, listened, shared, and believed in the power of women supporting women through writing and creativity.

A special thanks to the amazing Queen of the Terrace and, one of our talented writers, for making it happen!

Finally we’re in Cannes networking! We’ll keep you posted.

Smile like you mean it

There’s something about the Lab…
you walk in with noise, and you leave with a smile.

Not the perfect kind—
the honest one.

When we smile, we soften.
When we soften, we let go of filters.
And that’s where the writing begins.

Ideas don’t like pressure.
They like space.
They like truth.
They like you—unmasked.

In the Lab, we don’t chase words.
We let them come to us.
And somewhere between a laugh, a pause, and a deep breath…
something real appears.

“Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.” — Maya Angelou

So keep smiling.
Not because it’s easy—
but because it opens the door.
