Maurizio Cattelan receives the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2026!

The award celebrates one of the most influential voices in contemporary art, whose practice - spanning sculpture, installation, and conceptual gestures - combines sharp humour with profound social reflection. His first solo exhibition in Germany will open at the Neue Nationalgalerie during Berlin Art Week 2026, supported by BMW.

From his iconic works La Nona Ora and Him to the infamous “Spaghetti Car” created with BMW in 2016, Cattelan continues to merge irony and gravity, wit and critique, turning discomfort into reflection.

“BEING AN ARTIST IS NOT A JOB, IT’S A MALFUNCTION
ART IS A WAY TO SURVIVE, NOT A WAY TO LIVE
IF I KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING, I WOULD HAVE STOPPED A
LONG TIME AGO
SOMETIMES THE BEST IDEA IS THE ONE YOU’RE TOO
ASHAMED TO SAY OUT LOUD”
Maurizio Cattelan, 2025

At Panorama Pozzuoli, the city itself becomes a living exhibition: a continuous promenade through a stratified landscape where myth, geology, and history converge. Curated by Italics, the project transforms Pozzuoli into a dynamic, open ecosystem—an evolving palimpsest that connects aesthetic experiences, participatory practices, and shared knowledge. Here, ancient deities, volcanic landscapes, and contemporary voices meet, asking how the sacred, natural, and human continue to redefine themselves in the visible world.

Among the works on view is 60 Minutes (2021) by Elmgreen & Dragset, a sculptural intervention that reimagines the traditional plinth as a marble washing machine. Perched atop sits a contemplative boy, also carved from the same stone, as if paused mid-thought or simply waiting for the cycle to end. By merging domestic functionality with sculptural tradition, the work reflects on labor, waiting, and the very frameworks—both symbolic and physical—that shape our perception of art.

MASSIMODECARLO is pleased to present a solo exhibition in Hong Kong by Japanese artist Tomoo Gokita, featuring a recent body of work first shown in October 2024 at ICA Milano. Rooted in the visual language of the everyday, these paintings take familiar figures and gestures and subtly distort them.

In this new body of work, the artist took the everyday as a starting point: ordinary gestures, banal settings, and seemingly familiar roles. In works like Doctor and Patient or Ventriloquist, Gokita reimagines these mundane pairings with subtle absurdity, shifting them just enough to feel both recognisable and dreamlike. Even in larger canvases like Amnesia, the subject matter feels suspended, both personal and oddly generic, like a déjà vu with the edges smudged. It’s here, in this register of the ordinary made strange, that Gokita is perhaps most compelling: reminding us that the everyday, too, is filled with illusion.
