BLOCCO SUD

I’ve always been fascinated by what happens to abandoned buildings.
First come the signs left by people.
Then nature starts taking everything back.
With BLOCCO SUD, Giazo (Maurizio Aroni)’s hand-painted intervention and the vegetation become part of the same process: two different traces of life slowly changing the structure over time.
Presented during Milan Design Week 2026.

BLOCCO SUD

Sono sempre stato affascinato da ciò che accade agli edifici abbandonati.
Prima arrivano i segni lasciati dalle persone.
Poi la natura inizia lentamente a riprendersi tutto.
Con BLOCCO SUD, l’intervento dipinto a mano di Giazo (Maurizio Aroni) e la vegetazione diventano parte dello stesso processo:
due tracce diverse di vita che trasformano lentamente la struttura nel tempo.

NEXUS 05-06-07
Part of the NEXUS series presented during Milan Design Week 2026.
For the installation, I created a series of independent structures designed to exist both as autonomous pieces and as fragments of a larger brutalist landscape.
Each structure is cast through a single concrete pour, with the lighting system integrated directly into the architecture. Integrating the lights into the concrete wasn’t exactly the easiest part, but I have to admit: pressing that button and watching the structure light up is incredibly satisfying.
Concrete, light, vegetation and time doing the rest.

NEXUS 05-06-07
Parte della serie NEXUS presentata durante Milan Design Week 2026.
Per l’installazione ho creato una serie di strutture indipendenti pensate per esistere sia come opere autonome che come frammenti di un paesaggio brutalista più ampio.
Ogni struttura è realizzata attraverso un’unica colata di cemento, con il sistema di illuminazione integrato direttamente nell’architettura. Integrare le luci nel cemento non è stata esattamente la parte più semplice, ma devo ammetterlo: premere quel pulsante e vedere la struttura illuminarsi è tremendamente soddisfacente.
Cemento, luce, vegetazione — e il tempo che fa il resto.

I’ve always been drawn to structures. Solid, controlled, permanent. Concrete gives you that illusion. That something can last. But it’s not true. What interests me is what happens after. When control starts to slip. When something alive enters the system. Plants don’t follow the rules. They don’t respect the geometry. They grow where they can. They take space.

Here we are, finally at the opening of DESIGN WEEK, where my new project NEXUS will find its home inside “Bar Trattoria Altra Vista con Sala Giochi”.

A project curated by the visionary minds of , who have transformed the Cavallerizze into a space and a dimension of rediscovered time.

This Bar was only missing one thing: a bit of concrete.

In short: come for the design, stay for the wine.

And yes — the structures are available to be photographed, and to be taken home.

A una settimana dalla fine di Art City sento ancora addosso l’energia di quei giorni. Portare Mondobruto davanti ai vostri occhi è stata un’esperienza intensa e bellissima.
Grazie di cuore a tutto il team per l’organizzazione e l’ospitalità impeccabile. È stato un vero privilegio far parte di questo evento.

One week after the end of Art City, I can still feel the energy of those days. Bringing Mondobruto in front of your eyes was an intense and beautiful experience.
