As the summer vacation officially ends and school resumes next week, reality is hitting hard. But if you are planning a trip to Italy soon, let me give you a quick lesson on how to transition from tourist to local.

My friend arrived just as everyone was packing up their beach chairs. They wanted to stick to a strict, hyper-efficient schedule to maximize their time. Big mistake. On their first afternoon, they tried to go shopping at 2:00 PM. The streets were a ghost town. Every shop shuttered, every owner gone. They thought it was a holiday.

Nope. Just riposo—the sacred Italian afternoon nap.

Just like kids heading back to school, tourists have to learn the local timetable. In Italy, you don't fight the schedule; you adapt to it. You rest when the locals rest, you eat when the kitchen actually opens at 8:00 PM, and you accept that life moves at its own beautiful pace.

School might be starting for the kids, but Italy is about to teach you the best lesson in slowing down. Just leave your strict itineraries at home! ☀️🇮🇹
