Thank you for all the birthday wishes!!! ❤️ I’m a little emotional because this photo was taken at the exact moment I “turned” 36, surrounded by poets, including one of my best friends, Medgine Mathurin, and a few of my all-time favourite writers, whose generosity and kindness know no bounds: Aracelis Girmay, Canisia Lubrin, Ishion Hutchinson, and Kevin Young, who all gathered for the readings. What a gift to begin this year in the company of their words ❤️

Descântec For My Split Tongue is a poetry bestseller in my hometown of Edmonton!!! ❤️ City of POETS!!

Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered, shared the book, sent messages, and carried these poems into the world before I even had the chance to hold the book myself. Fiecare comandă, fiecare mesaj, fiecare mână care a atins cartea înaintea mea a însemnat enorm.

And a very special thank you to Audreys Books for supporting this book so beautifully and for hosting my Edmonton launch on June 20 at 2pm. Abia aștept să sărbătorim împreună. 🤍

ships the book to everywhere in the world!!! Grateful 🙏

There is something so emotional about knowing my book is already out in the world, being held by people I love, before it has even reached my own hands. ❤️

Here is my book in Sarah’s kitchen in Whitehorse, on Bert’s tablecloth in Edmonton, in Adela’s garden in Vermont. Lauren, Dara, Andra, Maria… I keep thinking about your hands holding this book 🥰

Thank you, din suflet, to everyone who pre-ordered this little multilingual dream. You can order it from my publisher or anywhere you buy your books! 🌟

This feels like such a beautiful full-circle moment because Canisia Lubrin (.lubrin) was the first editor to accept one of my poems for publication in a paid literary journal.

That poem eventually became the title poem of this collection, Descântec For My Split Tongue, first published in Humber Literary Review () in 2019.

So receiving this beautiful blurb from her means the world to me. Thank you, Canisia. Not just for this, but for always encouraging me to trust my voice, my method, the real heat in the marrow of my pen. ❤️

My new favourite word: c'asciddricao (ridere a crepapelle, senza fiato, senza potersi fermare). To laugh your head off til you can't breathe. 😂

I missed teaching!!!

Grazie a , a , e all'insegnante fantastica di .

Non vedo già l’ora di domani, per il prossimo laboratorio al Liceo Classico 💛

Every poem is for my mother. Every poem is for my child ❤️

Happy Mother’s Day to all who mother, to those carrying both exhaustion and exhilaration in the same body, to those trying to learn or reclaim their mother tongue, against all odds.

Descântec For My Split Tongue is available worldwide and through your favourite indie bookstore.

A special thank you to for first publishing this poem in ❤️

I’m overjoyed that Tara Skurtu’s () words will live on the back cover of my debut collection forever. Here is her full blurb:

“I should have begun by saying / that I lost my mother tongue.” Dor, strigoi, proverbe, descântece: Adriana Oniță’s multilingual Descântec For My Split Tongue holds up a mirror to the untranslatable, and in that mirror, desire, nostalgia, grief, and love weave a homecoming ritual to rediscover what waits within us to be found. These achingly incantatory poems hit to heal where it hurts. “I write of Holy fire”— This dynamo of a debut drives a stake through the heart of the undead to exorcize limba maternă from the unforgotten depths of dor, unsettling that indefinable ache to get as close as words can to the Holy source, the mother of all tongues: “What cannot be quenched. What cannot be burned.”

Tara means the world to me, and to this collection. Deep gratitude for her eagle eye, her steadfast coaching, and for being the poem-midwife to every line in this collection. ❤️

I can't believe my poetry book is out in five days!!!!! Order it from to anywhere in the world, or from your favourite indie bookstore!
