Interi Fragment Creations are 16th-18th century fragments, usually church fragmented objects that have fallen into disuse. The combination of beautifully carved articles of worship with fossil shells, polished agate coral, minerals and precious gems, usually in their m

atrix form, brings into existence a contemporary work of old and new. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original evolving in its own right- Interi™.

18th century Italian candlesticks adorned with pyrite in matrix and chalcopyrite. ✨ The candlesticks originally came from a historical church in Italy but became fragmented over time. Together with the mineral specimens, they are transformed into sculptural works of art. 🤍

Sculptural 18th century Italian hand-carved, figurative crossbones mounted on fossil rock coral base.

The 18th century crossbone fragment originally came from a historical church in Italy. It was once part of the foot of a crucifix as a skull and crossbones (similar to the crucifix pictured) and represents Christ’s victory over death. It is mounted on the coordinating fossil rock coral which emulates the color of the middle of the crossbone. The piece is put together by Jean O’Reilly Barlow, the artist and founder of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the fragment is originally 18th century.

Together, the elements create a gothic, historical, and organic work of art.

Fashion & Fragments ✨

17th century Italian Florence Fragments adorned with fossil agate coral and mounted on agate bases with Grace Barlow modeling the pieces in coordinating vintage dresses.

The fragments originally came from a church in Florence. They were found and saved from the historic flooding of the Arno River in 1966. There is still the original paint and silt left on the pieces to uphold the integrity, craftsmanship, and history of the sculptural fragment. The shells coordinate with the fragment’s original features and remnants of the flood as if it evolved together over time.

The Florence Fragment Collection exhibited with the Museo de’ Medici and will exhibit again with the museum this upcoming Autumn. “I am honored to present this collection with the Museo de’ Medici with the city where the pieces found their origin and precious history,” says Jean O’Reilly Barlow, the artist and founder of Interi. “This collection is to honor the history of Florence and to show the beauty and resilience the city holds. It is the birthplace of the renaissance and this collection pays tribute to the rebirth after the flood.”

Calcite crystals ✨

18th century Italian hand-carved and gilded angel wing, cross, and chalice combined with rare calcite crystals from the famous Elmwood Mine. They are examples of the world’s finest crystallized calcite. It is unequaled by those from any other part of the world (referenced from the “American Mineral Treasure” book, pg. 337). The mine is now closed and the calcite crystals are becoming increasingly rare.

Combined with the ecclesiastical artifacts, the museum-worthy crystals transform each piece into a new sculptural work - creating a historically and organically significant work of art.

Interi’s spolvero prints have become works of art in their own right. These were once used to create frescos in a palazzo like the one pictured or beautiful building throughout Italy. Now I present this collection of limited edition spolvero designs so that people can have their own fresco pattern in their own homes.

Discover The Spolvero Collection through the link in bio and discover more fresco art inspiration like the rooms pictured.
