OPEN CALL | 2026/2027
Abitare il provvisorio
4th Florence Annual International Art Exhibition

Exhibition: 14–20 November 2026
Venue: Casa Abitata, Florence, Italy
Application deadline: 31 October 2026

Organised by Associazione Nazionale di Belle Arti d’Italia (ANBAI), ISOLART ART CENTER and Associazione NOMYA.

Artists worldwide are invited to apply. Painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, conceptual art, performance, graphic design and interdisciplinary practices are welcome.

Now in its fourth edition, the exhibition continues an international dialogue across artistic disciplines and cultural perspectives. This year’s theme, Abitare il provvisorio, explores how we inhabit temporary spaces and create a sense of belonging amid change. Through space, memory, movement and everyday gestures, artists are invited to consider what makes a place feel like home—and what remains when we leave.

Selected artists will participate in a seven-day exhibition in Florence, with an official digital participation certificate, inclusion in the digital exhibition catalogue, online presentation and exhibition promotion.

Awards will be selected by the exhibition jury. Winners will receive official award certificates, publication of an artist-supplied article and selected artwork on the three organisers’ websites, inclusion in the official digital catalogue and an Instagram feature.

On 27 July, Villa Trossi Uberti in Livorno hosted the presentation of “Il Teatro del mare. Le arti sceniche nell’isola di Gorgona” as part of the public programme of MEDUSA, LA GORGONE Art Prize 2026.

Edited by Gianfranco Pedullà and published by CuePress, the volume brings together voices and reflections surrounding the long-term theatre project developed by Compagnia Teatro Popolare d’Arte at the Gorgona prison. Previously presented at Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence as part of “Il Palazzo Racconta”, the publication arrived in Livorno to continue a dialogue connecting stage practice, critical thought and civic engagement.

The evening extended MEDUSA beyond the exhibition space, bringing contemporary visual art into conversation with theatre, publishing and social practice.

INSIDE MEDUSA, LA GORGONE 2026

Across the rooms of Villa Trossi Uberti, Medusa takes on many forms.

Painting, photography, sculpture, installation and interdisciplinary practices approach the myth from different cultural and personal perspectives. Rather than repeating a single story, the exhibition asks who has the power to look, who is reduced to an image, and what changes when the observed subject looks back.

These exhibition views offer a closer look at the third edition of MEDUSA, LA GORGONE Art Prize—an international dialogue around identity, memory, vulnerability, transformation and resistance.

NEXT PROGRAMME
27 July · 18:30
Book presentation: “Il Teatro del Mare. Le arti sceniche nell’isola di Gorgona”, followed by the MEDUSA 2026 Award Ceremony.

A curatorial project by ANBAI, ISOLART ART CENTER and Associazione NOMYA, in collaboration with Fondazione d’Arte Trossi-Uberti.

On view until 9 August 2026.
Free admission.

In Italian, “Nel Mezzo” means “in the middle” or “in between.” Taking the idea of “in-betweenness” as its curatorial core, the exhibition explores the complex relationships formed between culture, identity, memory, language, material, space, and contemporary visual expression. Rather than referring to a single, fixed, or closed position, “in between” points to a dynamic, mobile, and generative state. It may refer to cultural translation between East and West, formal transformation between tradition and contemporaneity, the interweaving of individual memory and collective history, or the interaction among body, space, image, and material.

In a contemporary context shaped by globalization, migration, technological media, and changing social structures, artistic practice is no longer bound to a single geography, identity, or narrative. Instead, it unfolds at the intersection of multiple relations. The artwork becomes both a passage and a threshold space, connecting past and present, private experience and public discourse, local culture and international perspective. It is precisely within these not-yet-fully-defined intermediate spaces that art generates new structures of perception and expression.
