The Festival develops its projects mainly in the area of popular, ethnic, traditional music and plastic arts. The Festival Sete Sois Sete Luas was born in 1993, as cultural connection between Italy and Portugal, and nowadays it involves 12 countries of Mediterranean (Croatia, France, Italy, Morocco, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey) and countries with Portuguese speaking world (Brazil, Cape Ver
de, Portugal + Luxembourg) in a continuous and mutual exchange. The Festival is a project of artistic mobility which promotes arts and cultures of each countries in this large net, organizing contemporary popular music concerts, exhibitions (painting, sculptures, photography, video art, street art…), musical, artistic and gastronomic residences, original discography, conferences. The honorary presidents from 1993 were the Nobel Prize for literature José Saramago, from whose novel “Memorial do Convento” originates the name of the Festival (Sete Sois and Sete Luas are the characters) and Dario Fo. The honorary president is old President of the Republic of Cape Verde Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
