We are thrilled and deeply grateful to announce the screening of the documentary “Sonido Amazónico” at Kumbiavik Festival 2025!

This powerful premiere brings us straight to the musical heart of the Amazon through the story of Los Fabulosos Wembler’s de Iquitos, the legendary band formed by the five Sánchez Casanova brothers: Emerson, Jair, Alberto, Jairo, and Misael. Pioneers of the iconic cumbia amazónica, they have been spreading the sound of the jungle across the globe for over 55 years.

“Sonido Amazónico” is an emotional journey that captures their legacy, collective spirit, and deep love for music—a rhythm born among rivers, trees, and electrified guitars.

🎬 Behind this remarkable film is Luis Chumbe, an Amazonian director from Iquitos, Peru, with an impressive body of work including Responso por un abrazo (2013), Mapacho (2019), Fuga (2023), and El auge del Humano 3 (2022). He has also worked on the mini-series Colegio Nacional, Sergio Libre, and short films such as Sudada, while leading cultural initiatives like Kinomada and ICARO.
Chumbe is the co-founder of the production company Sacha Cine, through which he directed Sonido Amazónico—a film that honors the living pulse of Amazonian cumbia.

La Pi**he Tefi is the DJ alias of Bogotá-based visual artist and photographer Stephanie
Ascanio. Her sets, played mostly on 45 rpm vinyl, are built for dancing—connecting Latin
records from different decades and scenes into a playful, high-energy flow. Expect cumbia,
salsa, boogaloo, merengue, and plenty of surprises, always leaning into rhythm and joy rather
than purism or nostalgia.
She’s taken her collection to clubs across Europe and the US, moving dancers with sets that
feel spontaneous, sweaty, and full of personality. La Pi**he Tefi doesn’t aim to educate or
impress—she’s there to keep the party going, record by record, beat by beat.

DJ Melerito De Jeré is a DJ, producer & visual artist from Spain based in Iceland. He is a member of the band “Xiupill” and half of the electronic music project “PELLEGRINA”. He has a monthly radio show at Drift Radio called: “Take Shelter” and also promotes and organizes an experimental electronic party known as “MASSAGE” in Reykjavik.

-Melerito first got into music through flamenco and breaks, after being exposed to a huge landscape of electronic music during a trip to Germany in 2010, his curiosity went beyond any genre, and since then, he has been experimenting and mixing music on his own unorthodox and unique way.

Since then he has played many times with artists like Björk, Arca, Sega Bodega, Eartheater, Mun Sing, Abadir, Andy Morin (Death Grips), Hyph11E, Coby Sei.

La Dimensión is a multicultural tropical-psychedelic cumbia band based in Reykjavík, Iceland. Blending traditional Latin American rhythms with modern influences, the band creates a powerful sound that celebrates heritage, dance, and community.

Formed by musicians from Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Iceland and the Netherlands, La Dimensión brings a unique fusion of Amazonian cumbia, psychedelic grooves, and global beats. Known for their vibrant live shows, the band has performed at festivals, cultural nights, and Latin parties across Iceland, earning a reputation for turning any venue into a dance floor.

Hljómsveitin Los Bomboneros skipa þau Alexandra Kjeld (söngur, bassi), Daníel Helgason (tresgítar), Kristofer Rodriguez Svönuson (slagverk) og Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir (básúna, fiðla, söngur). Hljómsveitin hefur sérhæft sig í tónlist Mið- og Suður-Ameríku ásamt frumsömdu efni og hefur koma víða fram við miklar vinsældir tónleikagesta en tónleikar sveitarinnar eiga það gjarnan til að breytast í funheit danspartý. Árið 2023 kom út þeirra fyrsta breiðskífa, ¡Mambó!

Los Bomboneros was formed in 2016 when Alexandra Kjeld (bass and vocals), Daníel Helgason (tres-cubano and guitar), Kristofer Rodriguez Svönuson (percussion) and Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir (trombone and violin) got together to share their love of Latin American music. Los Bomboneros play Cuban salsa, Colombian cumbia and many other styles from South America. Their debut album, ¡Mambó!, was released in 2023 with all original material.
