Affsoongar is a feminine alter ego, a figure formed at the intersection of myth, imagination, nature, and lived experience. The world she inhabits is filled with signs, narratives, and beings that move between reality and fantasy. At times defiant and at times vulnerable, her presence becomes a space for reflecting on individuality, imagination, and our relationship with the world around us.

The Monster Keeps Laughing | Solo Exhibition | First Floor | 28August to 11 September | Pourang Pirataie

Statement

A direct encounter with war, and with the overwhelming reality of its presence, is a profoundly existential experience. Beyond its social, political, and ethical dimensions, war also has an intensely personal and internal aspect—one that is inscribed differently in each individual’s memory. Everyone carries their own account of the moment they hear the roar of bombers overhead; of how they confronted war and, for those who emerge from it, of what remains afterward: fear, suffering, memory, and the persistent attempt to return to life. The narratives may resemble one another, yet the lived experience of war remains singular and deeply personal.

Pourang Pirataei, born on October 30, 1985, in Shahr-e Rey, Iran, is a visual artist. He studied graphic design at the IRIB Art School. His interest in the visual arts began in childhood and developed into a professional practice through his formal education and involvement with the Iran House of Cartoon.

Pirataei’s work brings together diverse approaches drawn from modern and contemporary art. Influenced by the expressive possibilities of Pop Art and Expressionism, he has developed a distinctive visual language in which narrative elements, humor, formal exaggeration, and emotional expression coexist. In his practice, the image functions not merely as representation, but as a space for engaging with both individual and collective experiences.

Working primarily with acrylic, wax resin, and oil pastel, Pirataei’s practice can be situated within the field of mixed media. The layering of color, texture, and various materials is a defining characteristic of his visual language.

Zahra (Zara) Rasouli is an Afghan artist born in 1994, currently living and working in Tehran, Iran. She studied Industrial Design at the Faculty of Art and Architecture, Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch.

Working primarily with oil on canvas, Rasouli also creates ceramic sculptures. Her artistic practice is informed by her lived experience as a migrant and as a member of Afghanistan’s Hazara community. Her work explores notions of identity, belonging, memory, and roots, reflecting both individual and collective experiences in relation to the past, contemporary life, and her ancestral homeland.

The representation of the human figure and inner experience occupies a central place in Rasouli’s paintings. The figures and spaces within her work provide a framework for exploring ideas of belonging, distance, memory, and connections to the past.

As her practice continues to evolve, Rasouli explores the relationship between individual identity, cultural roots, and the experience of migration. Through painting and sculpture, she seeks to reconsider these ideas in relation to lived experience and the contemporary world.

زهرا (زارا) رسولی، هنرمند افغانستانی متولد ۱۳۷۳، در حال حاضر در تهران، ایران زندگی و فعالیت می‌کند. او در رشته طراحی صنعتی در دانشکده هنر و معماری دانشگاه آزاد اسلامی، واحد تهران مرکزی، تحصیل کرده است.

رسولی عمدتاً با رنگ‌روغن روی بوم کار می‌کند و در کنار نقاشی، به خلق حجم‌های سرامیکی نیز می‌پردازد. فعالیت هنری او متأثر از تجربه زیسته‌اش به‌عنوان یک مهاجر و عضوی از جامعه هزاره افغانستان شکل گرفته است. آثار او به مفاهیمی چون هویت، تعلق، خاطره و ریشه‌ها می‌پردازند و بازتابی از تجربه‌های فردی و جمعی او در نسبت با گذشته، زیست معاصر و سرزمین اجدادی‌اش هستند.

در نقاشی‌های رسولی، بازنمایی انسان و تجربه‌های درونی او جایگاهی محوری دارد. شخصیت‌ها و فضاهای آثارش بستری برای پرداختن به مفاهیمی چون تعلق، فاصله، خاطره و پیوند با گذشته فراهم می‌کنند.

رسولی در ادامه مسیر هنری خود، به کاوش در نسبت میان هویت فردی، ریشه‌های فرهنگی و تجربه مهاجرت می‌پردازد و از طریق نقاشی و حجم، امکان بازخوانی این مفاهیم را در مواجهه با تجربه زیسته و جهان معاصر جست‌وجو می‌کند.
