Music for Loudspeakers (Electroacoustic Music from Iran)
Electroacoustic art music in Iran has a tradition spanning over 50 years. The Shiraz Arts Festival, which from 1967 to 1977 also hosted pioneers of European electroacoustic music such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis, coincided with the first generation of Iranian composers in electroacoustic music. These composers began their careers in Europe and the USA after their composition education, including Dariush Dolatshahi and Shahrokh Khajenouri. This phase marks the beginnings of electroacoustic art music in Iran, which represented a successful synthesis of compositional creativity, cultural identity, and emancipation from Western musical tradition for many composers.
The concert will feature works by eleven composers from Iran who live in Iran, Germany, France, Norway, and the USA. The concert provides insights into their individual approaches to composition for fixed media, showcasing the diversity of electroacoustic music, including works with a narrative character as well as pieces incorporating language and abstract sound compositions. Curator and sound director is Amir Teymuri.
