Seasonal Affective Disorder

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression linked to yearly changes in seasons, mostly starting and ending at the same time each year. Common signs include low energy, changes in sleep, and feeling sad. Most people feel it during the fall and winter months, though it can occasionally happen in the summer.

Common Symptoms

Low Mood: Feeling sad, hopeless, or cranky most of the day.

Low Energy: Feeling very tired, sluggish, or heavy.

Sleep Changes: Sleeping much more than usual or having trouble sleeping.

Appetite Shifts: Eating a lot more and craving carbs or sugary foods.

Loss of Interest: Stopping hobbies or pulling away from friends and family.

Depression is a medical condition, not a sign of weakness, and it cannot be "snapped out of" without help.

If you have feelings that are persistent, severe, or preventing you from functioning, seek professional support.

I was here.

Sometimes the hardest thing isn't being seen, it's believing you deserve to leave a trace at all.

A small poem about surviving, waiting for gentler days, and writing your name on the world, however briefly.

Life Interrupted

This poem is about the moment life ejects you from the path you thought you were on and the painful realization that the world keeps moving, indifferent, while you stand on the roadside with only your memories and your baggage.

Anyone who has faced job loss, illness, burnout, heartbreak, or any sudden derailment will feel this poem.

It’s a poem about displacement, involuntary endings, and the loneliness of being seen only in your diminished state, not in the fullness of who you were.

Double Depression

Double depression is a term describing the coexistence of two types of depression: a chronic, low-grade depression (persistent depressive disorder or PDD) combined with acute, severe episodes of major depression (MDD). It feels like a persistent, long-term "veil of sadness," which suddenly deepens into severe, debilitating depression.

It combines Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD/Dysthymia) lasting 2+ years with superimposed Major Depressive Episodes (MDE).

In addition to chronic low mood, individuals experience more intense symptoms, such as severe hopelessness, fatigue, sleep issues, and low self-esteem.

Double depression is often more severe than PDD or MDD alone, leading to higher rates of relapse and greater impairment in daily functioning.

While not a separate, distinct diagnosis in the DSM-5, it is clinically recognized as "Persistent Depressive Disorder with intermittent major depressive episodes".

Depression is a medical condition, not a sign of weakness, and it cannot be "snapped out of" without help.

If you have feelings that are persistent, severe, or preventing you from functioning, seek professional support.

The "Invisible" Shift

We often talk about the symptoms of depression, but we rarely talk about the transition.

There is a terrifying moment when "What should I do now?" suddenly becomes "There is nothing to be done." It’s a metamorphosis that isn't always visible from the outside, a shift where your own thoughts begin to feel like intruders.

We are often bombarded with "mind over matter" narratives telling us we can "think" our way out of any state of mind. But when the mind itself is under siege, these formulas don't just fail; they become toxic.
They ignore the physical, sluggish weight that drains resolve from your muscles.

Understanding this transition is vital. If we can recognize the signs of the shift early, we can better prepare, seek support, and advocate for ourselves before we are neck-deep.

Depression isn't a lack of willpower. It’s a change in the laws of gravity.

Depression is a medical condition, not a sign of weakness, and it cannot be "snapped out of" without help.

If you have feelings that are persistent, severe, or preventing you from functioning, seek professional support.

• Muscle aches, tension, trembling, or shaking.
• A "knot" in the stomach, nausea, or diarrhea.
• Sweating, dizziness, headaches, and feeling physically exhausted or shaky.

Psychological and Emotional Symptoms:
