Konkan Fruit Fest An extremely popular cultural event, that celebrates the amazing diversity of local fruits in the Konkan region which Goa is a part of.

This year's edition of the festival will be held between 1st and 3rd May at the Panaji-Goa We believe that Food is a critical and integral part of our cultural heritage, but is one that is frequently overlooked by government, public and corporate institutions in favour of its more glamorous siblings like Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Museums and Architecture. This has led to fast declining loss of our

food heritage, especially amongst the young people of Goa and a drastic decline in our horticultural biodiversity. As an example, ICAR research of 1997 found that almost 31 varieties of mangoes identified in 1979 have been lost and many others are close to ‘extinction’ in Goa. If this continues, in just a few years ‘endangered’ varieties like Charam, Bheddsam, Churna will most likely be lost. The Konkan Fruit Fest is an initiative to preserve and enhance this endangered aspect of our cultural heritage by providing fruit growers the forum to market these 'lesser known fruits' and consumers (like us) to learn about and enjoy them.
