The Invisible Backbone of India's Care Economy

Behind every ageing parent, there is often an invisible caregiver whose sacrifices go unnoticed.

Most often, she is a daughter, daughter-in-law, spouse, or family member who quietly manages medicines, hospital visits, physiotherapy appointments, emotional support, household responsibilities, and countless daily challenges—while putting her own aspirations, career progression, financial independence, and personal wellbeing on hold.

As moves towards becoming an ageing society, we must begin recognizing an often-overlooked reality: The wellbeing of caregivers is as important as the wellbeing of those they care for.

The economic and social contribution of informal caregivers remains largely unmeasured and undervalued. Yet they form the backbone of India's health and care ecosystem, filling critical gaps that formal healthcare systems alone cannot address.

At the TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research, we believe that any meaningful conversation on wellbeing must extend beyond patients and include the caregivers who support them every day.

As part of our ongoing work on Wellbeing and Human Resilience, we advocate for greater research, awareness, and policy attention towards:
1. Caregiver wellbeing and mental health
2. Work-life balance for family caregivers
3. Financial and social support mechanisms
4. Community-based care models
5. Recognition of unpaid care work
6. Healthy ageing and intergenerational resilience

A truly wellbeing-oriented society is one that cares not only for its elderly, but also for those who care for them.

Today, take a moment to check in on someone who is caring for an ageing parent or loved one.

Sometimes, the person who needs support the most is the one providing it.

Building Healthier Minds, Stronger Schools, and a More Resilient

stands at a defining moment in reimagining education. Academic excellence alone is no longer sufficient. The future demands learning ecosystems that nurture mental wellbeing, emotional resilience, human values, and lifelong flourishing alongside knowledge and skills.

At the .in TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research, we believe that mental wellbeing should not remain a supplementary initiative—it must become a measurable pillar of national education policy.

To support this vision, the Centre has developed the —an evidence-based, AI-enabled, multidimensional framework designed to assess and strengthen wellbeing across educational institutions. We advocate for its integration into India's future National Mental Health & Well-Being Policy and education ecosystem as a standardized framework for measuring, monitoring, and improving institutional wellbeing.

The Bharat Wellness Index goes beyond screening individuals. It evaluates the health of the entire educational ecosystem by focusing on:
1. Student mental and emotional wellbeing
2. Teacher wellbeing, resilience, and capacity building
3. Safe, inclusive, and psychologically secure learning environments
4. Early identification and preventive wellbeing interventions
5. Parent-school-community engagement
6. Institutional culture, leadership, and human flourishing

Mental wellbeing is not merely a healthcare issue—it is an educational, social, and economic imperative. Students who feel safe, supported, and emotionally resilient learn better, innovate more confidently, develop stronger relationships, and become responsible citizens.

The TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research calls upon policymakers, educational institutions, researchers, healthcare professionals, industry leaders, and civil society to collaborate in building a National Mental Health & Well-Being Framework where the serves as a common language for assessment, policy implementation, and continuous improvement.

Because healthy minds build confident learners.
Confident learners build resilient schools.
Resilient schools build stronger communities.
And stronger communities build a healthier, happier, and more resilient .

THE INAUGURAL STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE ON WELLBEING & HUMAN RESILIENCE: Yesterday, 16th July 2026, TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research in partnership with GlobalSpin Forum, concluded the 1st Stakeholder Consultative Dialogue on Wellbeing and Human Resilience at ITC Limited, Thapar House, New Delhi.

This was not just an event. It was a statement of intent.

At , we believe that India's ancient wisdom is not a relic of the past — it is a strategic asset for the future. Our civilizational knowledge systems — the Panchakosha, the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita's Samatva, Sikhism's Chardi Kala — offer timeless solutions to modern challenges like stress, burnout, and social fragmentation.

The dialogue brought together policymakers, practitioners, industry leaders, and civil society to explore how we can embed this wisdom into our institutions, workplaces, and public policy.

What TESG delivered:
🔹 Shri Balvinder Kumar, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, TESG, laid out a visionary design to mainstream wellness rooted in India's civilizational legacy — appreciating our past while building bridges with modern scientific temperament.

🔹 Shri Yash Arya, Partner, hashtag & President, TESG, set the tone for building ecosystems and engagements that transcend silos.

🔹 Ms Radha Bhatt, Managing Director, TESG, launched the TESG-proprietary Indian Wellness Index — a deployable dashboard anchored in the Panchakosha model, accompanied by a consulting model based on ancient legacy wisdom. This is not philosophy. This is policy-ready, boardroom-ready, community-ready data.

🔹 Ms Shrishti Nautiyal, Founder, New Delhi Dialogues, laid out a roadmap to form a wider consensus and bring ancient wisdom to the mainstream — with a firm commitment to scientific temperament and research-backed methodologies.

The team launched their seminal paper: "Fabric, Skin, and the Physiology of Daily Wear — A Comparative Evidence Review of Synthetic and Natural-Fibre Textiles, with Field Observations from Indian Occupational Settings"

Authors: Aman Bandvi, Yash Arya, Radha Bhatt, Balvinder Kumar

This is rigorous, evidence-backed research. The Insight Brief is being compiled and will be shared with all stakeholders soon.

The future of wellbeing lies in rediscovering enduring wisdom. The time to bridge the two is now. India's moment is here. TESG is leading the way.

's Healthcare Challenge: A Call for Preventive and Scalable Solutions
The numbers are a stark reminder of the healthcare gap India continues to face. While the WHO recommends 1 doctor per 1,000 people, India's average remains significantly below this benchmark, with several states facing an acute shortage of healthcare professionals.

This reality raises an important question: Can we rely solely on treatment-centric healthcare models to serve a population of 1.4 billion people?

The answer lies in strengthening:
1. Preventive healthcare
2. Mental health and wellbeing interventions
3. Digital health and AI-enabled solutions
4. Community-based health systems
5. Health literacy and behavioral change
6. Early detection and risk reduction strategies

At the TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research, we believe that the future of healthcare is not only about increasing access to doctors but also about empowering individuals, institutions, and communities to proactively manage their health and wellbeing.

A healthier India will require a shift from sick-care to health-care—from treating disease to preventing it.

is rapidly emerging as a preferred global destination for cancer care, driven by world-class medical infrastructure, highly skilled specialists, internationally accredited hospitals, and cost-effective treatment options.

As healthcare continues to evolve, the opportunity extends beyond treatment to creating integrated ecosystems that combine accessibility, affordability, technology, patient support, and long-term wellbeing outcomes.

At TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research, we believe that the future of healthcare lies in connecting innovation, digital transformation, human resilience, and patient-centric care to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all.

India has the potential not only to heal its own population but also to become a global hub for compassionate, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services.

The First Client Every Mental Health Professional Must Understand Is Themselves. The conversation around student mental health deserves more nuance than sensational headlines.

The data reminds us that students in disciplines such as psychology, counselling, social work, nursing, and allied helping professions may report higher levels of emotional distress—not because these professions "cause" depression, but because they attract individuals who are often more self-aware, empathetic, emotionally engaged, and willing to acknowledge their struggles.

At the TESG Centre for Health and Wellness Research, we believe that self-awareness is not a weakness—it is the foundation of ethical and effective care. Before we can guide others toward healing, resilience, and wellbeing, we must understand our own patterns, emotional responses, stress triggers, and nervous system.

This is why our research and training emphasize:
1. Self-awareness and reflective practice
2. Supervision and mentorship
3. Psychological safety
4. Self-care and emotional resilience
5. Continuous learning and professional development

The future of mental healthcare lies not only in developing better interventions but also in nurturing healthier, more resilient caregivers.

When we care for the caregiver, we strengthen the entire ecosystem of care.

At , we remain committed to advancing evidence-based, human-centered, and preventive approaches that empower individuals, educators, counsellors, and organizations to build sustainable cultures of wellbeing.

The cost of ignoring student well-being is far greater than we imagine.

When a student struggles in silence, the consequences extend far beyond the classroom. Stress, anxiety, academic pressure, and burnout don't just affect grades—they shape confidence, relationships, career aspirations, and lifelong health.

Research consistently shows that emotional distress can lead to reduced concentration, declining academic performance, increased absenteeism, and social withdrawal. These are not isolated challenges—they are early warning signs that demand timely attention.

The real question is not whether students need support. It is whether our education system is equipped to provide it.

School counselling and preventive mental health interventions should be viewed as essential educational infrastructure, not optional services. Every school deserves trained counsellors, every teacher needs the skills to identify early signs of distress, and every student should have access to a safe space where they can seek help without fear or stigma.

At TESG, we believe the future of education lies in integrating mental well-being, resilience, emotional intelligence, and preventive care into the learning ecosystem.

Healthy minds build stronger learners. Stronger learners build a stronger nation. It is time to move from reactive support to preventive wellbeing.

Every conversation matters. Every intervention matters. Every student matters.

Mental Health Before Marks: The Conversation India Cannot Ignore

A report card should reflect learning, not determine a child's worth.

Across , millions of students are growing up under immense academic pressure—long study hours, coaching classes, constant comparisons, and the fear of failure. While education is meant to empower, excessive performance pressure is increasingly affecting the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of our children.

The real crisis is not poor grades. The real crisis is when anxiety replaces curiosity, burnout replaces joy, and achievement comes at the cost of health.

Parents, schools, educators, and policymakers must collectively ask:
1. Are we preparing children for examinations or for life?
2. Are we measuring success only through marks?
3. Are we creating environments where children feel safe to fail, learn, and grow?

At , we believe that every child deserves:
1. Emotional safety
2. Psychological wellbeing
3. Healthy learning environments
4. Supportive parenting and mentoring
5. Success without sacrificing mental health

The future of India will not be built by stressed children chasing perfection. It will be built by resilient, confident, and emotionally healthy young minds who are encouraged to learn, innovate, and thrive.

Let's shift the conversation from "How many marks?" to "How are you feeling?"

Because no examination is more important than a child's wellbeing.
