NEITHER TRIPURA GOVERNMENT nor NFR TAKES COGNIZANCE after repeated public demand

12097/12098 AGARTALA KHONGSANG AGARTALA JAN SHATABDI

Government runs trains for the general public keeping in mind about their convenience but 12097/12098 AGARTALA KHONGSANG AGARTALA JAN SHATABDI don't meet expectations. As this train stops merely 6 KM to SILCHAR in ARUNACHAL JN & the destination of 100℅ passenger who travel on this train from TRIPURA is SILCHAR it’s for treatment, education, work etc. After deboarding this train people again have to pay Rs 100/- each to reach SILCHAR by 3 Wheeler as there is no other mode of communication from ARUNACHAL JN station. Ticket price for general passenger (2S) in this train from AGARTALA is Rs 140/- additionally Rs 100/- per passenger is required, further the time saved by travelling in JAN SHATABDI is lost by travelling on the road to SILCHAR because of traffic JAM. Mostly severe ILL PATIENT boards this train from TRIPURA to reach SILCHAR quickly for life saving treatment but it goes in vain.

This train stays in Arunachal Jn for the whole day then returns back to AGARTALA in the evening from the last 2 years as MANIPUR situation is not stable to run trains.

Why not TRIPURA Government & LOCAL bodies demands NFR to run this train as (AGARTALA -SILCHAR- KHONGSANG / KHONGSANG -SILCHAR- AGARTALA) on permanent basis for the convenience of common public at large. If this train leaves from SILCHAR station in the evening for AGARTALA, tourism & Pilgrimage in TRIPURA will also boost along with NFR revenue.

Ministry of Railways is considering the conversion of Silchar’s local passenger trains into Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) services. However, this transition depends on operational feasibility, the availability of DEMU rakes and other competing railway requirements. Currently Silchar operates 30 train services.

A few media portals are claiming that a fire has taken place on board a train. This is incorrect and misleading information.

It is actually a case of smoke due to brake binding in the wheel of one of the sleeper coaches of the train 15641 at Bihara Station. Brake binding happens when the brakes grip the wheels too tightly, leading to smoke. The issue has been attended, and train has already left Bihara station, after a delay of around 45 minutes.

There is no cause for concern

Railway Electrification of Lumding – Dibrugarh Section nearing completion

Maligaon, Feb, 20:

The Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of Northeast Frontier Railway conducted an inspection of the ongoing electrification work on the Mariani – Simaluguri and Simaluguri – Dibrugarh sections via Moranhat on 19th & 20th February, 2025. Upon completion, Dibrugarh will be directly connected to Guwahati through Overhead Equipment (OHE), enabling the Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express and other superfast trains to operate on electric traction. The electrification of the Simaluguri – Tinsukia section is in its final phase, with commissioning targeted for March 25, 2025. Notably, the Lumding – Dimapur – Furkating – Mariani sections have already been commissioned. Additionally, electric locomotive trials for the Mariani – Simaluguri – Dibrugarh section were successfully conducted on 31st January 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s railway electrification efforts.
The railway electrification project for the Lumding – Dibrugarh route via Tinsukia, along with the Simaluguri – Dibrugarh section and associated sidings under Northeast Frontier Railway is progressing at a rapid pace. Spanning the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions, the project commenced physical work in May 2022 and involves extensive infrastructure development. The project includes the installation of 488 RKM/650 TKM of Overhead Equipment (OHE), five traction substations, 29 switching stations, and five transmission lines spanning over 50 km. Additionally, it comprises the construction of five OHE/PSI depots, five tower wagon sheds, and several civil structures, including 121 staff quarters, administrative buildings and station upgrades. A significant infrastructure enhancement under this project is the reconstruction of the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Mancotta, aimed at improving connectivity over the Dibrugarh & Dibrugarh Town station.
The electrification of this crucial rail corridor will enhance operational efficiency, reduce dependence on diesel, lower carbon emissions and significantly improve connectivity in the Northeast. The successful completion of these sections will mark a major milestone in railway infrastructure development, ensuring smoother, faster and more eco-friendly train operations for the region.

The North East Frontier Railway has started preparations to launch the Agartala-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express. It has been informed that the train will leave Agartala at 6 am every day and reach Guwahati at 1:30 pm and return from Guwahati at 2 pm and reach Agartala at 9:30 pm. It will stop at Ambasa, Dharmanagar, New Karimganj, Badarpur and Hojai stations on the way. The exact date of the train launch will be known after the official announcement.
