Chilika Lake is a brackish water lagoon located in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It is the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second-largest lagoon in the world. The lake is separated from the Bay of Bengal by a narrow sandbar.

Kalijai is a small island located in the Chilika Lake. It is considered to be one of the most sacred places in Odisha. According to local folklore, the island was named after a girl named Kali who drowned in the lake while returning from her in-law's house. It is believed that her spirit still resides on the island.

The island is home to the Kalijai Temple, which is dedicated to the goddess Kali. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees every year during the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. The temple is built on a small hill and offers a panoramic view of the Chilika Lake.

Apart from the religious significance, Kalijai is also a popular tourist destination. Visitors can take a boat ride from Barkul or Rambha to reach the island. The boat ride offers a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding hills. The island is also home to a variety of bird species and is a popular spot for bird watching.

Overall, Chilika Lake and Kalijai island are important cultural, religious, and ecological landmarks in Odisha, and attract visitors from all over the world.
