Paddybird!!!
We saw this Indian pond heron (Ardeola grayii) perched atop a tree branch near the orchid garden . This resort is so beautifully designed with greenery all around, gardens and water bodies, we felt like we were almost living in a forest, felt very close to nature!

Sundried!!!
Spotted this Oriental darter (Anhinga melanogaster) perched comfortably drying its wings under the sun on our way from Alleppy to Fort Kochi.
Because of the way it hunts fish while being submerged and only it’s slender neck being visible above water, it’s also known as snakebird.
And also because of this type of hunting they are usually found drying their wings.

The Indian Blue Mormon (Papilio polymnestor)
Spotted this magnificent butterfly from almost 50 feet away while on our walk at .The resort has a butterfly garden but this guy was interested in orchids probably (yes, the resort had an orchid garden too!).
I was captivated by the size of this butterfly, probably the biggest one I have ever seen. This particular species have a wing span of 12-15 cms and are the fourth largest butterfly in India.
The Blue Mormon, is a large swallowtail butterfly found in south India and Sri Lanka. It is the "state butterfly" of Maharashtra!!!

Cleared for landing!
This flock of little egrets was busy having breakfast at the beach. These birds used to move towards the sea when the waves receded and then quickly walk/run/fly back when the waves came back. I believe they were catching fish or something else to eat, but also looked like they were having quite fun, running up and down and splashing in the sea water. Witnessed this at the beautiful beach just a stroll away from our stay at !!!

Solar lamp post!
The remains of a dilapidated jetty is kind of an attraction at the Alleppey (Alappuzha) beach. Sitting here soaking in the setting sun you could just think of what the mighty structure would have looked like in its prime, now just reduced to rusted and corroded columns taking the never ending beating of the sea waves. Again one of the many examples how nature takes back everything eventually!!!

Spotted this cute little owl around our villa at . The resort has so much greenery and plantation that it has become a natural habitat for all sorts of birds, feels like you’re living deep in a forest. A very close to nature experience indeed!!!

Sebastian the crab!!!
This guy was busy doing his usual hole digging. I was impressed by the persistence of the little guy, going in digging deep and bringing out a armful of sand to dump on the outside, then wait and canvas for threats before diving back in. Sat there for over for a fairly long time just admiring this little thing go about it’s daily routine. The sea waves almost undo all his work several times a day. Isn’t nature beautiful!
