The credit for the creation of this organiser goes completely to my husband. Let me tell you the story. There is a family tradition that we follow at home. My daughter or me never ask my husband what he wants as a gift because he always ends up asking for something which is too impossible to get. When I started making craft out of paper I decided to ignore this tradition, at my own risk, and decided to ask him what he wants me to make for him. Not contradicting the flow of events in my mind, he immediately came up with the design of the Organiser. He specified all the compartments he would like to have and quickly I realised the complexity of the design would take me immense amount of time and hard work. I kept at the task for a while and added my own twist of small draws and detailed compartments. But when I see the organiser at his desk in office and how he beams about me creating it to everyone who asks, I feel all the hard work was worth it!!

I have always been conscious about the newspapers piling up at home. Lately every time I pick up the newspaper and read I realized that majority of the content in it is less news and more gossip. When I would hand over kilos and kilos of it to the raddiwala (the old newspaper collector), I would get some money in return but the concern of whether it was actually being recycled or not was always lingering in my mind.

The thought of creating something artistic of the heaps and heaps of paper accumulating, was what led to the creation of this bicycle completely made with newspaper. It took me long grueling hours of work to produce my first bicycle. Newspaper has to be first cut and then rolled into long strips. The strips are then cut, shaped into the required form and assembled to create the finished product. And when I had the finished cycle in my hands my joy new no bounds!!

Sometimes the joy of creating things you love cannot be substantially expressed in words. I never thought that, what started as a hobby would become my passion.

The craft that I create has helped me discover a new side of me. Exploring this identity has helped me gain new confidence and connect with the true me. For all of these years I had pictured myself as a teacher, a mother, a wife and a daughter. Never had I dreamt that the identity of being an artist would give me so much pleasure and make me feel complete.

I owe this primarily to my mother - Chachi (as I fondly called her) and to my loving father who always encouraged me to strive harder and achieve new heights. I am also fortunate that I have my husband, Parameswaran Mk and my daughter, Poornima Parameswaran as my pillars of strength who have always encouraged the artist in me.

Though my mom is not with me anymore she lives and breathes in my craft. Chachi Creations is a small tribute to all the love she showered on me. I wish every woman deep delves into herself to discover what she is truly worth.

Most of the artwork I create involves of material we find lying around in our homes. I primarily work with newspaper but I am also experimenting with other materials such as used plastic and glass bottles, corks, used wool etc.

This venture, of breathing life into waste material, is my small way of preventing it from piling up in our environment.
