BAKED EARTH

‘Baked Earth’ is a venture, which we are trying to explore and mark our comment by making a collective form of art with terracotta. Through this project, we are attempting to make a creative involvement of students with clay and different process of soil transforming in to figurines or different creative forms. Id ea of this project derived from the concept of international soil year

which we are celebrating in the year of 2015. MAKING PROCESS

CLAY PLAY;
Clay play is an involvement and interaction of students with clay. They will be introduced in to the techniques of terracotta, to enhance their imaginations and creative freedom. Moreover, they will get a space to experience traditional techniques. For instance, clay preparation, brick making, etc. Around fifty students will be participating in the workshop, and it will be completed in three days. KILN;
Clay play will allow students to create desirable forms. After drying it is placed in a kiln or atop combustible material in a pit, and then Fired. The typical firing temperature is around 1,000°C (1,830°F). The iron content gives the fired body yellow, orange, red, “terracotta”, pink, grey or brown color. RUN TO EARTH;
‘Run to earth’ is a culmination of our thoughts, activities and practices so far. This phase of the project will be a gathering and working together of the artists, who are involved through the project. Through this Baked earth provides a creative platform which allows us to come together to express ourselves and our concerns coherently. Intention of this phase is to work together and engaging with the medium clay. Also the reflections of surrounding life we experienced beyond conventional and restricted platforms. We are placing ourselves to work collectively.
‘Run to earth’ allows us greater opportunities and possibilities to engage with variety of art practices rather than one individual practice and medium. This will be leading into a more consolidated effort to organise and curate a show where students also the artist from different practices get involve, which in many senses will go beyond a usual collective exhibit. We can place the exhibition as an effort to promote contemporary art into the village Parudur. BAKED EARTH;
The final stage of the project will be the process of assembling these figures altogether in to an interactive art form. The form will evolve from the making process. Once the work is placed, it will remain in the space by marking its idea and relevance.
