WORLD COCONUT DAY 02 SEPTEMBER. Coconut Palm is the STATE TREE OF GOA ...Notified in the Official Gazette, Government of Goa in December, 2017, after amending the Goa Preservation of Trees Act, 1984, to provide for it. (Official Gazette page is reproduced below) Till then, even the Matti or Maddat, Terminalia elliptica, was an UNNOTIFIED 'State tree of Goa, Daman & Diu' as as the State Animal (Gaur), State Bird (Red breasted Bulbul) and other ALLEGED state creatures, including the 'State Heritage Spirit, Cashew Feni' still are. The Matti was regularized with the Coconut Tree in 2017. No previous Gazette notification has been produced by anyone as proof to the contrary. The only other NOTIFIED item is the "Heritage Goan Folk Musical Instrument" GHUMOTT without Monitor Lizard skin.
