15 year old me ...as Assavri kandalgoankar
High waisted
taken by my friend jennifer dais

At that age, everything felt wrong—the body, the face, life itself. I couldn’t see what was actually there.

And then I think about my twenties, thirties...when I probably looked at photographs and thought the same things. Oh, I wish I looked different. I wish I was thinner, prettier, better.

And now, years later, I look back and think, Wow. She was beautiful.

Maybe that is how every phase of life is. We are always standing inside a moment, judging it, wishing it were different, never quite seeing its beauty.

Until it becomes a memory.

And perhaps that is the lesson: maybe we should be kinder to the person we are today, because one day we will look back at her and wonder why we didn't realise how beautiful she was.
That was me .....

Nandini 🙋‍♀️ a dear friend, a wonderful writer, and someone whose relationship with Konkani runs deep. I have known Nandini through my annual forest womens workshops it's been a decade now and over the years, our friendship has grown beyond the work we do.
And forest recipes of goa sealed the deal with
For my book , she helped me with the Konkani translations, carefully checking the language, diction, expressions and nuances that I could so easily have missed. Her understanding of the language and its many shades brought an authenticity to the words that I value.

Nandini is also a prolific poet and writer, with her poetry published in several books and literary collections. I am grateful not only for her expertise, but for the generosity and affection with which she approached my work.

Some people contribute to a book with words; Nandini helped me find the right ones.

A few images from Forest Recipes of Goa — and a little glimpse into what I was really looking for while making them.
Wild Patoli of goa with that one suprised spice .

This is a wild edible turmeric Patoli, made especially during Nag Panchami. But while documenting these recipes, I often found myself getting distracted by something else — the light.

The way it slipped through a window, fell on a hand, touched a leaf, caught the steam, or quietly sat in a corner.

I’ve always been taught to look beyond the obvious — at the foreground, the background, the corners, the little things that make an image feel whole.

So yes, I was photographing recipes. But I was also chasing light....and attracting the obvious

And honestly, some days, the light was the story.

As a human,as a photographer / artist I've learned that creativity doesn't belong to a place. A perfect table or It doesn't wait for that dream studio, the right light, or uninterrupted time. It travels with us, quietly, asking only to be noticed.

When my mind becomes crowded, I don't look for answers. I look for a blank page. The first line is never about drawing—it is about letting go. One mark follows another until thoughts become shapes, feelings become textures, and silence finally finds a voice.

Nothing has to be beautiful. Nothing has to be finished. The page asks for honesty, not perfection.i believe .

Over the years, I've realized that a sketchbook is more than paper. It. is a place where the mind exhales. A place where I meet myself without performance.. .

When i shoot ....
And then there are photographs you create to help someone see themselves differently.
For me, maternity photography has never been just about creating beautiful images. It's about creating confidence. It's about helping a woman see her strength, her grace,in those distorted unasthestic body shapes and the quiet power she already carries within her before she becomes someone's mother.
(I STYLED &CREATED THIS SHOOT ATTIRE OUT OF THE LATE MOTHER'S SAREE) So glad I could 💫

This maternity session with my dear friend, Happy Skin Clinic || Skin ,Hair, Laser Aesthetic Clinic Diksha was one of those. In just a few days—or maybe even a few hours—she'll meet her baby.

she asked me, "A few months ago when we were planning this shoot...What's the one piece of advice you'd give u asked me
I smiled and said, "Go with the flow."go away from social media ( I did that too)
know you're offline as you prepare to welcome your
Diksha little one. A few months ago, I told you to step away from social media before the baby arrives
—to give yourself the gift of presence, rest, and these precious last moments of waiting. I'm so glad you took that advice.

Motherhood has its own rhythm. There is no perfect way to do it. There will be moments of joy, exhaustion, wonder, and doubt. Trust yourself, trust your baby, and let love lead the way

When you finally come back and read this, keep the collaboration on ...
your world will have changed forever. And I hope, somewhere between these photographs and the days ahead, you'll always remember just how beautiful, strong, and ready you already were

For years, I have been visiting the Chikhal Kalo Festival with my camera—sometimes on assignment, sometimes simply driven by my passion for documenting Goa's living traditions. Every visit has gifted me unforgettable photographs and stories.( Late Post,)

This year, however, my role changed. Goa Tourism Goa Tourism invited me to be a judge for the traditional heritage food recipe competition held during the festival. It felt like life had come full circle. After spending years documenting Goa's food culture and researching indigenous recipes, I was now invited to evaluate and celebrate the very traditions I have always admired.

It was a privilege to share the judging panel with Sonali Pai, whose years of experience and deep expertise in the food industry brought invaluable insight to the competition.

It was a packed day. Once the judging was over, I had to rush off to another assignment in Betalbatim. But before I left, I carried with me something far more meaningful than a day's work—the joy of seeing traditional knowledge being celebrated with such pride and passion, and the reassurance that these recipes, stories, and food traditions continue to thrive through the people who keep them alive.

not always about sleep.(

Sometimes, you just want to be horizontal.

After hours of standing, painting, climbing, reaching, sketching, and losing yourself in a wall, your body quietly asks for stillness.

Two days of rain postponed my photography shoot. Instead of fighting it, I poured all that restless energy into creating a kitchen wall—something I never imagined I could create with my own hands.

I've been thinking... maybe rain isn't always just rain.

Sometimes it's tears.
Sometimes it's a pause.
Sometimes it's the sky reminding you to release what you've been holding.
Sometimes it's a wall waiting patiently for your story.

And sometimes, the work you never planned becomes the work you needed the most.

Today, I'm not sleeping.
More on the drawing in the next post ...may be
