My first game got 500,000+ downloads but I made ₹0!!

I didn't put ads or in-app purchases in my first game because I thought they'd ruin the player experience. And honestly? I assumed downloads alone would somehow magically translate into money. They don't. A free game with no ads and no IAPs is just a free service you're running out of your own pocket. Free games make money through ads and IAPs. Paid games make money upfront from the price tag. But a free game with zero monetization? That's not a business that's a hobby. 500K+ players enjoyed my game but that didn't translate into money at all! Follow me for more such interesting stories from my career in game development!
