Homai may be miles away, but her house is far from empty. 👀

Set in a Parsi baug, Homai Alone follows the residents who start using Homai’s spacious house for their own little purposes, each one convinced they have the place to themselves.

But how alone are they, really?

Legacies Revisited | Mhatara Na Ituka (1971)

First staged in 1971, Mhatara Na Ituka was a Marathi adaptation of Sumner Arthur Long’s Never Too Late, adapted by Rajaram Humne and directed by Purshottam Bal. Starring veteran actors Ashok Saraf and Suman Dharmadhikari, the production brought domestic dynamics and family chaos together in a sharp, hilariously relatable comedy.

At the centre of the story was a strict, stubborn husband who received the shock of his life when his quiet wife became unexpectedly pregnant again. With their 24-year-old daughter and her lazy husband still living under the same roof, the news turned the household upside down.

What followed was an unexpected shift in power. The once-submissive wife stood her ground, stopped taking orders, demanded her own bank account, and took charge of the household, leaving her once-dominant husband in helpless panic.

By grounding the story in a familiar Indian family setup, Mhatara Na Ituka found humour in a situation that could easily have been treated with awkwardness or discomfort, instead turning it into a sharp and relatable comedy.

Revisited today through the archives of INT Aditya Birla Performing Arts Academy, Mhatara Na Ituka is a reminder of how theatre can change the lens through which we look at familiar situations, finding humour, perspective, and new possibilities in the everyday.
