The Parthenon, Acropolis of Athens, Greece.

The artwork is created on a watercolour paper in size A4. I started with sketching the structure with a 2H pencil, finishing the sketch with detailing work done with a 0.1 micron pen. I then use Camel watercolour cakes to paint the structure in this golden hue giving it a historic, sepia tone.

It’s back to showcasing yet another piece from year’s past. For those who know me, know well that I’m not a fan of flowers and hence this is the only artwork on nature you’ll ever find in my collection. Back then I was trying to familiarise myself with different techniques for blending and shading, which is evident in this raw piece.

“Fresh” is an artwork on regular drawing paper, size A4. I’ve finished the work with HB pencils and simple blending techniques.

Guess who’s back from a month long hiatus! Me. May was as chaotic as life can get. A lot of crucial decisions to make, some pinch me moments and a whole lot of memories later, on one fairy night, May became June.

I realised that while juggling multiple things at once, it’s rather difficult to find the time and inspiration to create new art but that shouldn’t stop me from posting my old work. So here we go..

‘Prima ballerina’ is the first piece in a series of silhouettes where I attempted to capture the poise, discipline and essence of the art form.

The artwork was created on an A4 sized drawing paper with HB pencils while I was at school.

In case you’ll miss my story, I’m open to ideas/ suggestions for my next artwork! Drop in your suggestions in the comments below and let me know whether you’ll like seeing my old art works in the meantime!

If you think I only love sketching cute little cafés around Bandra then you might be mistaken. This is Art and Charlie, a contemporary gallery nestled in the narrow lanes of Pali Village and although it isn’t a cafe, the building does have the most iconic ‘subko mini’. Don’t forget to check it out next time you’re in Bandra.

‘Gallery’ is part of my Urban Sketch Series in Watercolours. The piece is on a 300 gsm paper in size A4, the sketch was made with a 2H pencil and details have been outlined with a 0.1 micron pen. I finished the piece using Camel watercolour cakes.

‘The world is violent and mercurial - it will have its way with you. We are saved only by love - love for each other and the love we pour into the art we feel compelled to share: being a parent; being a writer; being a painter; being a friend. We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love.’ -Tennessee Williams

‘David’ has always held my interest, there are many mysteries to explore in the alluring, intriguing expression he holds. Both the sketches are 4 years apart and it’s a testament to the fact that practice can only make you better.

The pieces are on a drawing book paper in size 29.5 x 21 cms. The artwork was sketched and shaded with an HB pencil.

The iconic Yazdani Bakery is one of the few remaining traditional bakeries that offer Persian breads, baked treats and chai. If you’re a native of Bombay I’m sure you’re no stranger to a soft bun Maska or Brun pav with a steaming cup of chai. As my alternate IG handle suggests, I’m a coffee person through and through but I’ll make an exception only for this beloved snack because nothing pairs so beautifully with a warm, buttered brun pav as a cup of chai. *cue chef’s kiss*

“Yazdani Bakery” is part of my Urban Sketch Series in Watercolour collection. The artwork was created on a 300 gsm Watercolour paper. I started with sketching the structure with a 2H pencil, finishing the sketch with detailing work done with a 0.1 micron pen. I then use Camel watercolour cakes to paint the sketch in this iconic blue and add the red detailing on the architecture of the landmark Mumbai bakery.

‘All things seem possible in May.’ Edwin Way Teale.

I picked up my pencil again after a year and I remember finishing this piece in less than 40 mins. It has always represented the importance of creating art and breaking free from the cycle of work and routine.

‘Wing it’ is a piece on a 160 gsm paper in size A5. The piece was created by using a 6B pure woodless graphite pencil and nothing else.

Most of you don’t know this, but this cafe was the inspiration behind my ‘Urban Sketch Series in Watercolours’. The Steps Cafe is a quaint little oasis at the bottom of the Mount Mary Steps. The fascinating feature of this place is how it embraces nature, creating an environment that gives you the feeling of comfort that comes from spending time in a treehouse.

‘Steps Cafe’ is my first piece on a 160 gsm paper in size A5. I started off the sketch with a 2H pencil and then defined the details with a 0.1 micron pen. I finished the piece with Camel watercolour cakes.

Bombay High Court building was completed in November, 1878 and is situated between the University Building and Public Works Secretariat. The building is an early English-Gothic architectural style hidden with several unobserved architectural features lying in certain sculptures in odd nooks and corners of the building.

This piece is particularly special. As a practicing Advocate, the High Court building is part of our daily life and frequented several times throughout our regular work days.

‘Through the Windows of Bombay HC’ is an artwork on 160 gsm paper in size A5. The sketch was completed using a 2H pencil and a 0.1 micron pen. For shading I use the 6B pure woodless graphite pencil and blending paper stumps.

Those of you who know me and those who don’t but have witnessed the artworks I’ve made over the years, know this: sketching comes easy to me. I find a sense of comfort and control in the monochromatic style but struggle with paints (especially acrylics). And to overcome this struggle I’ve push myself to paint more often and enjoy the process without thinking about the outcome.

‘New York, New York’ is the first acrylics on canvas that was more than just me trying to find my feet and I can say I’m happy with the results.

The artwork is on a 12x16 canvas with acrylics.
