“Does internet mean the death of news papers?” ( Lipok Fused )
Well, Who among you still read newspapers in our generation?
Maybe a few of you or others don’t read at all. These few people read newspapers maybe because it’s required as homework?
Or maybe just a past time when there’s no other reading materials available around? But yes, the newspaper is also the only source of information for the old generation as they have no interest or are not accustomed to technology.
Newspapers…
They are clean, crisp and they smell good too. Everything is laid out in a predictable order. The national news on the front page, the local news on the next, followed by the business sections and the entertainment and sports on the pages that follows. Yes, newspapers has served as the main source of information all over the world for many decades.
But on the other hand, the word internet is one of the most popular word in the world today and it has become an essential part of life now a days. The modern generation is addicted to the internet which acts as an ocean of knowledge.
I’m sure everyone will agree to the undeniable fact that in todays world of high end technology, surfing the internet is much more easier and more time saving. Phones, laptops, tablets and computers at home is more accessible than having a newspaper on your hand. Not only can you read something that has a visual aide to boost your readings, but you can also surf other sites besides the news. Hassle free, right?
In my entire existence, I honestly know that I only have a handful of times viewing newspapers. I remember I would only view the entertainment section. Maybe I was bored by the too plain texts that the newspapers have or less images that would make the articles interesting.
But, if that is online, I would read it all.
Let us face it, science and technology has a big contribution in making our lives easier nowadays. In just one click you are already updated. You don’t have to buy newpapers and keep it in your bag. In just a click, you can have all the updates and information you want to know about something that happened in a particular place or day.
Moreover, the news we get in the newspaper is always stale. The Monday’s new we get on Tuesday morning and Tuesday’s new on Wednesday morning. But we get fresh news on the internet. On top of that, for the younger generation, with less patience the newspaper is difficult to handle, where as one can just open his phone or tablet or laptop and surf through all the events happening all around the world in just a second.
In short, all of the contents of the newspaper is on the internet in just a few clicks. So it can even be argued that the onset of internet into the world has bought the newspapers on the threshold of death.
However, is it really the internet that kills the newspapers?
Truth is - the internet helps people to have an easy access on everything and it is undeniable that people will more likely hear voices from the internet than in printed forms.
Therefore, it can be referred to as a phenomena where the same technology that is bringing us the news – the internet, something we love – is killing another thing we love – newspapers.
But can one even really term it as killing off the newspaper too? Because the people who calls newspapers the most useful bit of media forgets that media is merely the means by which information moves. Yes, we are losing newspapers but what is taking them away is also giving us a lot in return. The same internet that is stopping the newspapers is also allowing us to select what world events we track and how information is delivered to us. It is very important to remember that newspapers did not create humanity’s curiosity about the happenings of the world – but that - curiosity created newspapers.
Therefore, in conclusion, for me it is not really a “death” of the newspaper. It is kind of a rebirth, an innovation, an improvement of something. A level up from one stage to another. A better window for a new generation........................................
