We went to Banogi today to witness the Fagali celebration at Girimal Mandir. Photographs of the Devta were not permitted. The villagers, however, were open, warm, and full of kindness.

Fagali marks the end of winter — a symbolic clearing of darkness before agricultural planting begins again. The Kardu devtas are invoked, reaffirming an ancestral bond between land, season, and community. Girimal is one of the original Kardu deities, traditionally believed to have journeyed from Mahachi (Greater China). The story tells you this valley was never isolated. It was connected to trade routes, migrations, and cultural exchange long before modern borders existed.

Here at the temple in Bandrol, machines touch the ceiling panels alone. All other work has unfolded slowly by the hands of master carvers.
