The emptiness in his eyes alone reveals years of unresolved suffering. There are moments where he appears innocent and emotionally vulnerable, almost childlike, and moments later he becomes deeply unsettling because of the darkness growing inside him. That emotional duality makes Shivankutty incredibly realistic and unforgettable.

✍️ Symptoms Of Love is a delicately layered Malayalam short film that quietly navigates themes of existential dread, mortality, loneliness, and the fragile comfort of unexpected human connection. Produced by Bhavana Studios, the film follows Eby — a young man trapped within his own morbid anxieties, constantly preoccupied with death, funeral arrangements for his ailing grandfather, and his growing fear surrounding a suspicious lump on his scalp.

Against this emotionally heavy backdrop enters Twinkle, a warm and spirited journalist whose accidental reconnection with Eby slowly disrupts the emotional isolation he has built around himself. Their understated reunion at a movie theatre and the conversations that follow become the emotional core of the film, creating a beautiful contrast between Eby’s suffocating inner world and Twinkle’s grounded spontaneity.

What makes the film especially compelling is its deeply naturalistic storytelling approach. Instead of depending on dramatic emotional outbursts, the narrative unfolds through quiet, slice-of-life interactions — conversations about coffin rates and grave expenses exist alongside nostalgic memories of hostel-window romances and student life in Pala. This tonal balance gives the film a uniquely intimate emotional texture.

Technically, the minimalist aesthetic works beautifully in the film’s favor.
