Exactly a week ago, we presented SITA & ABDUCTED to our beloved and always curious people of Bangalore at Sabha.

What moved us the most was many sat through both the productions, not caring about the often unpredictable rains we have been experiencing, about parking, about how are they to get back home…. It was unadulterated love and respect that we experienced from them.

Our hearts are full by the response and the sheer encouragement each one of them poured out 🫶

ABDUCTED is not just a performance - it is a living, evolving work that incorporates the voices of women who have shared their stories with the choreographer. Each time it is performed, it transforms, reflecting the stories and experiences of the women who have confided in her. For these survivors, the choreographer has become a confidante, and for the audience, the work is a poignant reminder that we all have a role in perpetuating or combating the abuse of women.

Although grounded in the traditional movements of Bharatanatyam, ABDUCTED transcends the boundaries of the classical form. The choreography breaks free, using movement to vividly tell the stories of resistance and survival. At the heart of the piece is Kali, a powerful feminine symbol in Indian culture, representing resistance and empowerment. Kali is a sensual, sexual, and unapologetically powerful figure, an archetype of feminine strength. Her image serves as a counter-narrative to societal expectations, celebrating the beauty and strength found in femininity.

This production serves as a powerful and necessary call for empathy, understanding, and change, asking us to listen to the silenced voices and consider our part in the ongoing abuse of women around the world.
