Desert blues, folk heritage, and the stories behind them.

Our founder Ashutosh Sharma (Ashutosh Sharma) took the stage at Depot48 for “Soulful Music of the Desert,” presented with The Citizens’ Alliance, bringing Rajasthani folk traditions to life for an intimate room.

17+ Years of Preservation. Amarrass has spent nearly two decades archiving and elevating folk artists from Rajasthan and beyond. Instruments of the Thar.

The evening featured live demonstrations of the morchang (jaw harp) and khartalappers).

The “Thar Blues” Tours. Bridging traditional folk roots with global stages.

Immersive Journeys. Experiences like Himalayan Baithak and In the Desert: Thar Blues bring listeners closer to these roots.

RAVANA is playing Ziro Festival this year ⚡ and he’s doing it after midnight.

New Delhi’s Shravan Chellappa — sampler, DJ, sonic archivist — brings his signature chaos to Ziro Festival 2026: jungle, breakcore, dub, bass weight, and voices pulled from the archive, stitched into something you can’t quite predict.

He’s been part of the Amarrass family for years. In 2019 he made Dubfounded with Rajasthani Jogi folk poet Jumme Khan — dub, reggae, D&B and blues, colliding in a way nobody else was doing at the time.
Now he’s bringing that same instinct to the forest, after dark.

What happens when a lifelong love for the blues leads you into the heart of the Thar Desert? 🏜️🎶

We’d love for you to join us on Sunday, 16 August, as Ashutosh Sharma, Founder of Amarrass Records, shares the real story behind Searching for the Blues.

Come hear how his journey took him deep into the Thar Desert, to discovering Manganiyar legend Padma Shri Sakar Khan, and eventually to putting the Barmer Boys on international stages, told in his own words.

The afternoon continues with a live Morchang workshop with Sawai Khan, lead percussionist of the Barmer Boys. Sit close, listen closely, and try the instrument yourself.

When a song about brotherhood is sung in memory of a beloved mentor, uncle, and bandleader, every word carries a deeper meaning.

In this moving rendition of Bhai Sonera, the Barmer Boys honour the life and legacy of Mangey Khan while celebrating the bonds that connect families, communities, and musical traditions across generations.

With Bhura Khan now leading the ensemble his uncle(Mangey Khan) helped build, the performance becomes both a tribute and a promise that this extraordinary musical heritage will continue to thrive.

Recorded live at The Piano Man, this performance captures the spirit, soul, and enduring beauty of Rajasthan's Manganiyar tradition.
