CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

From: Hue Fine-Art Academy, Sagolband, Imphal

Date: September 5, 2026

It is with profound grief and heavy hearts that the members, faculty, and students of Hue Fine-Art Academy, Sagolband express our deepest condolences on the sudden demise of Oja Thoidingjam Tombi Singh, an eminent pioneer, master artist, and pillar of Manipur's visual arts community.

Born in 1936, Oja Th. Tombi’s lifelong dedication to the canvas enriched Manipur's cultural heritage. From his early academic foundation at Imphal Art School and M.S. University of Baroda to representing the nation on global platforms like the Triennale India and international exhibitions in Singapore, his artistic legacy stands as an irreplaceable benchmark.

Beyond his extraordinary artistic achievements—honored with the National Akademi Award, Manipur State Kala Akademi Awards, and Gold Medal from the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad—he served tirelessly as an educator, former College Principal, and vital leader across premier arts institutions including Lalit Kala Akademi (New Delhi), MSKA, and NEZCC.

His passing leaves a void in the artistic landscape of Manipur that can never be filled. We stand in solidarity with his bereaved family, friends, and disciples during this difficult time.

May the departed soul rest in eternal peace, and may his art continue to inspire generations to come.

In Deep Sorrow,

Hue Fine-Art Academy

In simple terms:
Light value → shows the part receiving more light.
Middle value → shows the main/local colour of the object.
Dark value → shows shadow and depth.
Gradual value changes → make the object look rounded and realistic.

Our weekend art-class students explore visual storytelling by creating a four-frame storyboard based on the theme “The Lost Ball.” ⚽
Through each frame, students learn how to arrange scenes, show movement and emotions, develop a simple story, and communicate a message through drawings. This activity beautifully combines imagination, sequencing, observation, and creative expression.
At Hue Fine-Art Academy, Sagolband, we encourage our students to go beyond drawing—to think, create, and tell stories through art. ✨🎨

These black ink drawings demonstrate the essential visual language of printmaking. Through the use of strong contrasts, bold silhouettes, expressive line work, and carefully balanced positive and negative spaces, students explored how images can be constructed without relying on color.

The artworks showcase a variety of subjects—including landscapes, still-life compositions, and nature studies—allowing students to develop observation skills while learning to simplify forms into clear tonal masses. By working exclusively with black ink, students gained a deeper understanding of value, texture, rhythm, and composition, all of which are fundamental principles in printmaking techniques such as linocut, woodcut, and etching.

This exercise encourages students to:

Develop confidence in line quality and mark-making.
Understand the relationship between light and shadow.
Create depth and texture using hatching, cross-hatching, and solid black areas.
Explore positive and negative space as a design element.
Build strong compositions suitable for translation into printmaking processes.

The resulting works reflect creativity, patience, and a growing awareness of graphic design principles. These studies serve as an important foundation for future printmaking projects, where students will transform their drawings into printed artworks while maintaining clarity, contrast, and visual impact.

"Before creating prints, students learn to think like printmakers—seeing the world through line, texture, shape, and contrast. These ink drawings are the first step in that artistic journey."
