Dedicated to Kathak of the Lucknow Gharana and semi-classical dance, the academy reflects the style of the legendary Lt. Birju Maharaj—a vision I have nurtured for over 30 years. My journey with Kathak began at the age of six. Along with a deep passion for dance, I hold a Master’s in Dance from Rabindra Bharati University, an M.Mus. in Dance from Pracheen Kala Kendra, an MBA in HR, and a B.Ed. Ove
r the past two decades, I trained under esteemed gurus including Lt. Birju Maharaj, Guru Saswati Sen, Pt. Vijay Shankar, Guru Ramaprasad Chattopadhyay, Smt. Paramita Mitra, covering theory, technique, tala, laya, make-up, costumes, and both solo and group performances. My professional journey began in 2007 at Anubhuti School, Jalgaon. I joined Sreenidhi International School, Hyderabad in 2009, briefly taught in Hisar in 2010, and returned to Sreenidhi in 2011 as Head of Department, serving for eight years. From 2019 to May 2024, I taught Dance and HRT at Indus International School, Hyderabad. Driven by passion and commitment, I resigned from my academic career to establish Sriyam Kathak Dance Academy in Suncity, Hyderabad, aiming to pass on traditional Kathak with high-quality training in both theory and practice. With overwhelming support, in August 2025 the academy expanded to a larger, state-of-the-art premises on the 1st Floor of the Insight India Network Building, opposite the Golden Temple in Suncity, beside Hotel Sky City, offering world-class infrastructure and facilities.
