Maithili Chitrakari - designed by Pallavi Choudhary

Maithili Chitrakari - designed by Pallavi Choudhary "Maithili Chitrakari" is about the Ancient folk Art form- Madhubani/ Mithila Painting, which originated from Mithila (parts of Bihar)

It is not just an Art form but a way of life !!! "Mithila / Madhubani Art" is one of the most ancient Folk art forms of the world. The antiquity dates back to almost 8000 years ago. This art is practiced in some regions of Nepal and Mithila region of Bihar, India. The art form was originally done on cow dung coated walls of the local household with bamboo twigs and natural colors. "Maithili" is on

e of the many names of Sita. Sita who is believed to be one of the incarnations of 'Aadi Shakti ' .She was the princess of Mithila so was also called Maithili. She was born of Earth (Bhoomi+ Jaa=Bhoomija) & so was very close to nature and it's elements. Jaanki was the darling daughter of King Janak , who is supposed to rule the Mithila kingdom (now regions of Nepal & Bihar) around 9000 yrs ago.It is believed that during Sita Vivah (Wedding) to Prince Raam of Ayodhyaa , the whole kingdom celebrated and welcomed the newly wed couple by painting beautiful motifs on their household walls. These pictures used to be of natural elements , animals & devi / devtas (god/goddess ). Maithili, the daughter of Earth, is my inspiration to highlight this innate Art form."Maithili Chitrakari" is my attempt to give this art form a new face and a broader platform without agitating it's simplicity.
