BETRAYED BY ONE OF HIS OWN: THE FINAL DAYS OF JESUS CHRIST
He preached love. He healed the sick. He gave hope to the forgotten. Yet, according to the Gospels, Jesus Christ faced rejection, betrayal, false accusations, and a death sentence.
The story of His suffering began long before the cross.
Even His own brothers did not initially believe in Him. In His hometown, people questioned His identity and took offense at His teachings. Meanwhile, some religious leaders grew increasingly hostile as His miracles attracted more followers.
One event intensified the conflict: Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. According to the Gospel of John, some people believed in Jesus because of this miracle, while certain leaders began plotting to kill Lazarus as well.
Then came the betrayal.
Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ twelve disciples, agreed to hand Him over to those seeking His arrest. Jesus was taken into custody, questioned, and brought before authorities. The events described in the Gospels culminated in His crucifixion at Golgotha.
For Christians, the suffering and death of Jesus are central to the story of salvation. His crucifixion represents sacrifice, forgiveness, and the extraordinary power of love in the face of hatred.
But one question continues to make this story so powerful: How could someone who taught love and compassion become the target of such intense hatred?
Was it fear of His influence, jealousy of His growing following, political tension, or a combination of these forces?
The Gospels offer their accounts, and believers continue to reflect on their spiritual meaning more than two thousand years later.
What do you think was the greatest tragedy in the story of Jesus: the rejection by His own people, the betrayal by Judas, or the suffering He endured on the cross?
