Mosaic art originated in ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) during the 3rd millennium BCE.
Mosaic art is an ancient decorative technique where images, patterns, or pictures are created by assembling thousands of tiny, colorful pieces of material (such as glass, stone, ceramic, or shell). These individual fragments are called tesserae and are secured to a base with adhesive or mortar, with grout filling the spaces between them.
