Apartment by the River | Clover G8

Bedrooms are often the quietest spaces in a home, but they carry the biggest responsibility. They are where the day begins and where it finally slows down.

For Clover G8, we wanted the bedroom to feel calm, warm, and effortlessly comfortable. We kept the palette soft with neutral tones, minimal textures, and subtle layers that create a sense of ease rather than excess.

Instead of filling the space with heavy detailing, we focused on restraint. Warm finishes and understated elements, including touches of cane detailing, bring character while allowing the room to retain its lightness and simplicity.

Part of our Apartment by the River series, this home embraces a softer and more minimal approach to everyday living, where comfort comes not from adding more, but from creating space to breathe.

Apartment by the River | Clover G8

Some homes don’t need layers to feel complete. They just need the right balance.

For this space, we kept things light and restrained. A neutral palette, minimal textures, and warm tones that allow the interiors to feel calm and easy.

Instead of adding more, we focused on holding back. Letting materials breathe and the space remain open. Subtle details, like the use of a cane, introduce just enough texture without disrupting the overall quietness.

Part of our Apartment by the River series, this home reflects a softer, more minimal approach to everyday living.

PRASHANTHAM- The Kitchen
We swapped out the previous design for something newer and current, with more amenities. The quartz countertop and backsplash complement the flooring, while the black appliances and hardware provide a sharp contrast. The sand-beige colour of the cabinets help anchor the space.
Also, i feel like I should do a shout out to for their fabulous kitchenware which does make the shelves pop! 😄

PRASHANTHAM- The Bedrooms

1. A neutral colour palette is chosen in the master bedroom punctuated by blue accents.
2. A mother-of-pearl inlaid rosewood futon from China anchors this space, offering additional seating while carrying a quiet sense of history. Paired with an ocean-themed painting above, the vignette reflects our family’s many years living in Hong Kong and subtly nods to my father’s life as a marine engineer.
3. The guest bedroom is a bit more colourful with warmer hues dominating the space.
4. The long console with the little wall unit above, around 50 years old, with a painting by my late grandfather in the middle. The artefacts inside the unit invoke a sense of nostalgia, especially the brass bunny! Zoom in for a closer look! 🙂

PRASHANTHAM - The Living room
Swipe >> for 1, 2 and 3

1. Teak furniture from the 1970s, pieces I’ve grown up around, now repolished and reupholstered in earthy tones, sits alongside subtle brass accents. Sheer curtains filter in natural light, creating a calm, bright ambience.

2. The sculptural teak tree trunk that’s been around for as long as I can remember (maybe even longer!) - crafted from wood sourced from our ancestral home. Don’t miss the little green birdie on the center table! 🦜

3. An antique wooden chest, topped with a treasured musical box in wood and brass. Above it hangs my mum’s Tanjore painting—adding memory, and meaning to this corner of the living room.

Growing up, I was surrounded by strong female role models—my mother, who raised my sister and me with strength and patience; my resilient, career-driven aunts on both sides of the family; and my grandmother, the glue that held our family together and a symbol of love and strength. Before her passing, she clearly expressed her wish for my parents to move into her apartment.

“Prashantham” is a homage to her, to my parents, and to the many influences shaped by their lives, travels, and the art and artifacts inherited across generations. Every aspect of this home tells a story, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

STAY TUNED!

| The landscape and it’s elements |
With the city’s history of severe flooding, we first began with having the site supplied with fresh soil, reworking slope gradients to facilitate meticulous drainage, and introducing landscape where needed.
The pool side gazebo, the water fountain and the wooden bridge were pre existing elements that were in dire need of a revamp. The meandering lily pond was added to reinforce the sense of calmness in the environment and to replace what was previously a dirt path.
The pickleball court is a recent addition to the property grounds, making for the perfect family outdoor activity.

The land around the house deftly turns the pages of time in response to the home’s
rejuvenation. The path to the pool is etched in russet strokes, bricks laid into a circuitous
trajectory that meets the waterbody’s azure. The colonnaded pavilion is prefaced by ‘The
Eye’, a node in the masterplan imagined in paver bricks and Sadarahalli stone that makes
one intentionally savour their outdoor sojourn. The sun’s nimble presence morphs across
the day, its shadows casting strobes of shadows through the arcade of columns.

“While the discipline of architecture is touted for giving brick-and-mortar meaning, the people who dwell within its walls give it a sense of belonging.”

Due to its scenic coordinates along Kanathur Beach’s coastline, Villa Del Sol’s history has witnessed many a transition. Sited on a verdant 1-acre land parcel, an earshot from the ocean’s lull, the residence is now our family getaway home.

The residence was acquired in a dated state by virtue of its former utility, its finishes masked and layered precariously with almost no tether to its origins. Its stopgap usage and overwhelming footfall only aggravated its neglect, leaving a canvas that demanded an extrinsic and intrinsic rehaul. Our design manoeuvres had to be minimal and meaningful, sensitive to the building’s age, and inventive in lending it a new lease of life.
