This is the official page of Flute J.A.Jayant, acclaimed Carnatic flautist of national and international repute with over 45 international tours in over 25 countries. A wunderkind, affectionately called Flute Jayanth by thousands was born in a musical family. He was naturally drawn into early training on bamboo flute in the Indian classical music tradition of guru-s

hishya parampara , since age five, from his grandfather and guru, late Kalaimamani Flute T. Sankaran, a Sangeeth Natak Academy awardee
himself and a prime disciple of the legendary Flute Mali ( T.R.Mahalingam ). His grandmother, late vidushi V. Sundari grounded him well in vocal music by the age of four. He is considered to be the torch bearer of Flute T.R.Mahalingam's school of playing and adding his own techniques to the existing style, taking it to another level. With his in-born talent, deep passion and primordial training, Flute Jayanth gave his maiden solo concert at the age of seven. His ability to play rAgam-thAnam-pallavi (or, RTP) in three speeds (or, thrikAlam ) at that age, surprised many senior musicians, co-artistes and audience alike. Jayant has a unique, virtuoso fingering and flute blowing technique to present his music beautifully even in the very difficult lower octaves on the bass and double-bass , thick-walled bamboo flutes, while maintaining shruthi suddham (perfect pitching) and excellent tonal quality. His expressive, bhava -laden rendering brings out the depth and soul of the lyrical aspects of compositions he presents (gayaki -form). As a result, Flute Jayanth’s over 1600 solo concerts in India and all over the world, have consistently won him lasting appreciation from one and all, including senior musicians, co-artistes, connoisseurs and rasikas (or, music lovers). His unique playing virtuosity and lyrical expressivity have inspired many flautists of the current generation and the younger crop to imbibe his style. He is the first carnatic flautist to unveil 106 cms long Double Bass Bansuri flutes in his performances casting a meditative spell on the listeners and also playing on 15 cms long piccolo flutes. Some beautiful moments captured from the concerts in Melbourne and Sydney - both these concerts were truly memorable and it was magic with brilliant Vidwans uncle and anna!

Thanks to the amazing audience in both the cities for the love and kind appreciation - shall remain etched for a long time to come ❤️

Both the concerts in Australia and the two concerts in NZ were dedicated in memory of Flute Legend Late TR Mahalingam on his centenary year🙏

Australia - see you soon mate!😀

Thillang thillana of Violin Maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman sir is one of my all time favourites. It is a piece of marvel. I was totally floored the first time I listened to it and ever since added it to my repertoire!:)

I have played it several times in my concerts and tours abroad leaving Rasikas and us musicians spellbound at the sheer complexity and the nuanced melody within!

Here’s a clipping from the concert in Coimbatore few weeks ago with Vidwans and my student Sreeram.

Watch and share 😀

Some concerts are special - the recent one in Sydney, the finale concert of our Aus/NZ tour was one such!

It is always very important to strike a musical chord with your audience and when it does happen, it feels truly special! I have always believed the involvement needs to be from both the performers and the Rasikas alike.

I had received 17 requests for this concert. Mokshamu Galadha of Sri Thyagaraja was one of them. Here’s a snippet of Mokshamugaladha in Raga Saramathi and don’t the razor like focus of the Rasikas sitting in the front row!
