PlayStation has given gamers plenty to argue about in 2026.
A viral post is going through some of the biggest decisions and controversies surrounding Sony this year, from ending physical disc production for new games in 2028 to shutting down Bluepoint Games and moving Destiny 2 beyond active development.
Some of those points are definitely worth discussing, but the original post is also heavily opinionated. Sony has not “ended physical gaming forever”, the company says only new PlayStation games releasing from January 2028 onward will be digital-only, while games released before then can still have physical editions.
The Hideo Kojima situation also changed quickly. PlayStation stepped away from PHYSINT, but Sony said its relationship with Kojima Productions remains strong. Xbox has now stepped in to publish the project.
And the Bluepoint situation is real: Sony acquired the studio in 2021, it worked on a canceled live-service God of War project, and Sony ultimately closed the studio in March 2026.
At the same time, the claim that PlayStation has stopped porting games to PC simply isn't true. Sony continues to release PlayStation titles on PC, including Death Stranding 2 in March 2026.
So yeah, there’s plenty for PlayStation fans to debate this year.
Do you think 2026 has actually been a disaster for Sony?
