The Koch Rajbanshis have been fighting for their ST status for the last seven decades making it one of the longest ethnic movements in the country. Despite the Parliamentary Select Committee Report (1997), Expert Committee Report under Ambika Charan Choudhury, clearance from Register General of India, scores of several other reports, the community has been constantly denied their right by the Govts both in the state and the centre. The community has reached a boiling point. The young leaders are on a hunger strike on seemingly simple demands which can easily be addressed. There is no reason why the Govt has continued to addressing these basic demands.
The Koch Rajbanshi Citizen's Forum extends full support to the cause raised by the agitators.
