Aagaaz Theatre Trust We are budding theatre makers on our way to creating inclusive spaces for learning, critical thought and dialogue. We love disagreeing and questioning.

Donate Now: https://rzp.io/l/YlarO1Z2 Aagaaz is the Urdu word for ‘beginnings’. In 2015 we registered ourselves as an independent community arts organisation under the Trusts Act. Aagaaz performs stories that raise questions and create dialogue amongst diverse audiences. At the core are the 20 adolescents from Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti who are growing into arts practitioners, theatre makers, and facilitators. We engage the young through inclusive and diverse learning spaces in fringe settlements of Delhi/NCR and performances in a range of venues and non-venues. Our methodologies are learner-centric.

We got a little shoutout on Son of Abish! 🥹✨

Aagaaz was recently featured on the latest episode of Son Of Abish, featuring Faye D'Souza, Anish Gawande and Varun Grover.

It feels special to see the work we do in Basti Hazrat Nizamuddin, with children, young people, communities, theatre, books, learning and imagination, find its way into a conversation reaching so many people.

For a community-led organisation like ours, moments like these are a reminder that the stories and voices emerging from our spaces deserve to be seen, heard and shared.

Thank you to the team at Son Of Abish for noticing and featuring Aagaaz. ❤️

And if you haven't watched the episode yet, go give it a watch!

What does Azaadi mean to you?

For us, Azaadi is not just a date in history. It is also about the freedom to imagine, ask questions, make choices, express ourselves, and dream about the life we want. Most importantly Azaadi is commitment towards each other - of friendship and dignity, it's a delicate state that needs to be held with care and protected collectively.

This Independence Day at Khwab Ghar, we began by asking our children a simple question: “Azaadi ke baad tumhe kya chahiye?”

Their answers were wonderfully honest — pizza, momos, pencils, money, and the freedom to travel and explore. 🍕

Through a magical box, children then discovered and wore objects connected to different ideas of Azaadi, before coming together for photographs with the Tiranga. 🇮🇳

In another room, history came alive through the characters of Savitribai Phule and Bhagat Singh. Children had the opportunity to meet these historical figures, ask questions, and imagine what it might have felt like to live through their times — asking questions about Partition, freedom, and even how old they were when they were killed.

And of course, we ended the day the best way we know how — with music, movement and dance!💃🕺🏽

Because at Aagaaz, we believe that learning about history doesn't have to stay inside textbooks. It can be experienced, questioned, imagined and shared.

Every book has the power to become someone’s favourite.

In this video, Riya shares why Streambot School captured her imagination, what she loved most about the story, and how children can find themselves in it.

If you're looking for a fun, engaging read for curious young minds, this might just be the next book to pick up from our library. 💛

We would love to hear about your favourite books! Tell us about a story that made you fall in love with reading in the comments.
